Brandon Scardigli – Entergy We power life. Fri, 27 Jun 2025 14:07:49 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.8.1 /wp-content/uploads/2024/06/cropped-FavIcon-32x32.png Brandon Scardigli – Entergy 32 32 A message to customers in South Louisiana /blog/a-message-to-customers-in-south-louisiana Thu, 29 May 2025 21:34:18 +0000 /?p=18053 We are deeply disappointed by Sunday’s outage event, which occurred when Entergy was directed by our reliability coordinator, MISO (the Midcontinent Independent System Operator), to bring many of our customers offline.

MISO oversees electric reliability across a 15-state region, including Entergy Louisiana and Entergy New Orleans. They monitor the transmission system and electricity demand to ensure grid stability across a wide footprint. If MISO determines the demand for electricity could exceed the available amount being generated, it sometimes orders companies like Entergy to shed load for a period of time. This is done to avoid a larger problem.

Entergy recognizes the May 25thoutage, ordered by MISO was not executed in a satisfactory way for our customers. We regret that Entergy was not provided with enough prior notice of the outage to prepare our customers for the potential loss of power.

Entergy continues to work with MISO to ensure alignment going forward regarding the usage modeling across our organizations. We have stressed to MISO the need to improve the amount of advance notice our company and our customers are given prior to any future event. While load shed events are incredibly rare, when they are ordered, the need must be clear to the utility and the advance warning should be maximized for the customer.

Despite this recent event, Entergy’s membership in MISO has been very beneficial for our customers – saving Louisiana customers alone hundreds of millions of dollars since our company joined in 2013. We fully expect these issues to be quickly resolved and our partnership with MISO to continue to benefit our customers.

Entergy recognizes the responsibility and trust that customers place in us to ensure that power stays on at their home or business. For that we sincerely apologize to those customers who had their Memorial Day Weekend disrupted by this event. You have our commitment and the commitment of our dedicated team of professionals to continue working on your behalf each and every day.

We’re from Louisiana and for Louisiana /blog/were-from-louisiana-and-for-louisiana Fri, 23 May 2025 21:49:43 +0000 /?p=18080 This is our home, too, and most of us at Entergy are customers just like you. We know it’s important to you that we deliver reliable power at an affordable price. In fact, we take this responsibility to heart and it’s more important than ever that our teams work diligently every day to help keep your bills as low as possible.

Your energy costs at the lowest possible price: 33% below the national average

Whether you’re a grocery store owner, a school administrator, managing your household’s expenses, or overseeing a hospital or manufacturing plant, we understand that every dollar in your budget matters. In the last decade, we have invested billions to strengthen the grid and modernize our generation portfolio. As a result, Entergy has one of the cleanest and most efficient generating fleets that has allowed us to keep rate increased to a minimum – generally at or below the rate of inflation. That’s why we’re proud to say last year our rates were ~33% below the national average and consistently for the last 15 years among the lowest in the state.

8 cost-saving actions we’re taking today to stay below the national average

  1. Building a storm-strong grid: By reinforcing our grid ahead of severe weather, Louisiana customers will save an estimated $1.2 billion in avoided storm costs. A more resilient grid also means less and shorter outages when it comes to weather. Phase 1 of this effort includes 2,100 projects across our state and is already underway.
  2. Modernizing our generation fleet: Modern technologies equal better efficiency, and our new, modern power generation sources help us and our customers meet clean energy goals, but also offer us the flexibility to lessen the impact on your bills should one fuel source spikes in price.
  3. Building an all of the above generation mix.Using a diverse range of power sources makes our system more reliable, efficient and cost effective for customers.
  4. Managing fuel costs: We’re in a constant state of trying to procure fuel at the lowest price available. Fuel costs are never marked up, so customers pay exactly what we pay. Also, having a variety of power sources helps shield customers from fuel price fluctuations and enhances grid reliability.
  5. Recruiting new power partners: By bringing new, large customers into our service area we not only help create new jobs and dollars for the state but also it creates a framework that lessens the rate impact for our residential customers across Louisiana.
  6. Putting money back in your pockets: During the 2024 tax season, Entergy helped low-income customers across our service area receive $55 million in federal tax refunds. We help customers save additional dollars through other federal funding resources includingԻ, and we offerThe Power to Care– our long-held bill assistance program for qualifying customers.
  7. Lessening fees: Last year, the Louisiana Public Service Commission approved a reduction of late fees, elimination of connection and reconnection fees, and the expansion of eligibility for low-income senior bill discounts – for a three-year span.
  8. Offering bill support: Our Bill Toolkit provides customers resources and available assistance options to help them more easily manage their energy bill. Whether you have questions about your bill, need more time to pay or are looking for assistance, our one-stop shop connects you to available programs and services.

Entergy is invested in you in more ways than one. Our 5,100 employees across Louisiana are your neighbors, your friends, your family. This is the place we happily call home just like you. As every day expenses continue to become more and more costly, as inflation rises, we remain focused on minimizing the impact of our customers’ bills.

Entergy Louisiana protecting grid from drought-affected trees /blog/entergy-louisiana-protecting-grid-from-drought-affected-trees Mon, 11 Sep 2023 20:11:00 +0000 /entergy-louisiana-protecting-grid-from-drought-affected-trees Throughout this summer, our state has experienced severe drought conditions that brought about significant challenges for both its residents and its environment. Louisiana faced record-setting heat along with a prolonged period of below-average rainfall, leading to parched landscapes, depleted water reservoirs, and stressed agricultural systems.

These conditions also caused broader concerns for our electrical system. As we know, one of the leading causes of power outages is vegetation coming in contact with our infrastructure.

With some portions of our service territory falling two feet below their normal rainfall over the past three months, it has caused extreme stress on those limbs and branches that can impede with power lines.

Rest assured we are doing everything we can to avoid that damaged vegetation causing outages for our customers. That’s why we’ve accelerated our usual tree-trimming across the state, particularly in those portions that have a thicker tree canopy.

We ask our customers to have patience and understanding as we make our way through our communities to trim this vegetation. Please stay away from crews and let them do their jobs efficiently and for their safety and your own.

Entergy and Project Partners Break Ground on Port Wonder in Lake Charles /blog/entergy-project-partners-break-ground-on-port-wonder-in-lake-charles Thu, 08 Jul 2021 20:39:00 +0000 /entergy-project-partners-break-ground-on-port-wonder-in-lake-charles With support from Entergy Louisiana, a development project in Lake Charles is on track to become one of the state’s natural wonders.

Appropriately named Port Wonder, the education and entertainment venue will include a children’s museum and a science and nature center administered by Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Phillip May, president and CEO ofEntergyLouisiana, joined Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter, Gov. John Bel Edwards and other officials in a groundbreaking ceremony on June 30.

“Bringing Port Wonder to life is an exciting step into the future that reinforces Entergy Louisiana’s commitment to education and the environment,” May said. “We’re also thankful for this opportunity to help the community continue building back after the devastation of Hurricane Laura. The Port Wonder project is further proof of the hope, strength and resiliency of Lake Charles and its people.”

Entergy donated $500,000 to help the City of Lake Charles and the Children’s Museum of Lake Charles raise more than $20 million to fully fund the project.

Port Wonder will be located on the north shore of Lake Charles on city-owned property between the Cypress Alligator Pond and the former Harrah’s parking garage. In addition to the museum and nature center, the project will include site improvements and a parking garage renovation and will set the stage for further development opportunities in the area.

Gas Replacement Program Delivering Safer, More Reliable Product to Customers /blog/gas-replacement-program-delivering-safer-more-reliable-product-customers Thu, 03 Jun 2021 19:24:00 +0000 /gas-replacement-program-delivering-safer-more-reliable-product-customers Natural gas is an essential fuel for customers in Louisiana. In the spirit of Entergy’s commitment to continuous improvement and in order to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of gas, that infrastructure needs to be replaced.

Entergy Louisiana and Entergy New Orleans are currently replacing hundreds of miles of cast iron, bare steel and other vintage gas pipes to modernize the companies’ gas delivery system. Read more below for an update on each company’s gas replacement program status.

Baton Rouge

In April of 2015, Entergy Louisiana began an accelerated pipe replacement program in Baton Rouge, a 10-year effort to improve the safety and reliability of the natural gas system. To date, crews have replaced approximately 69 miles of aging pipe in the greater Baton Rouge area along with converting the entire system to high-pressure.

The project involves replacement of approximately 100 miles of gas pipe, or roughly 6% of the main gas system. As of this past year, the program is ahead of schedule by approximately 14.3 miles.

Pipe types initially targeted for replacement include cast iron, bare steel and early vintage polyethylene. As of mid-2017, all cast iron and bare steel has been replaced, a full year ahead of schedule.Only early vintage polyethylene remains and is the focus for the remainder of the program.

New Orleans

Entergy New Orleans began rebuilding New Orleans’ natural gas system in 2007 after Hurricane Katrina’s floodwaters inundated the gas system and caused ongoing reliability disruptions in the hardest hit areas of the city. Using state-of-the-art technology and upgraded material, the company has converted a large portion of the city’s low-pressure gas system to a more modern high-pressure system. These new lines being installed will offer many years of safe reliable gas service including new safety protection features and higher-pressure availability to power modern equipment like on-demand water heaters and back-up generation.

Along with replacing aging pipes, converting the older low-pressure system to a high-pressure system will vastly improve safety and reliability for customers, making it less susceptible to flood damage and leaks. The new system is being rebuilt with industry-standard, high-density polyethylene gas pipe which is virtually impervious to saltwater corrosion compared to cast iron or steel traditionally used for gas systems. The new high-pressure system enhances public safety by including the installation of an excess flow valve which minimizes or stops the flow of gas by automatically closing if a service line is damaged.

As of May 2021, Entergy New Orleans has replaced approximately 85% of the low-pressure system; or 556 miles of the 650 miles that were in service when the flooding occurred.

Overall, removing aging gas pipe infrastructure is an industrywide focus. This project will help the company manage the integrity, reliability and safety of the gas distribution system, a primary goal for Entergy’s Gas Distribution Business. This work will help us rapidly modernize our facilities, improve our operational performance and better safely serve our customers.

Entergy Louisiana Restores Power Following Series of Spring Storms /stormcenter/entergy-louisiana-restores-power-following-series-spring-storms Wed, 21 Apr 2021 18:18:00 +0000 /entergy-louisiana-restores-power-following-series-spring-storms Entergy Louisiana crews successfully restored power to over 100,000 customers over the past week after a series of strong spring storms over a seven-day span brought extreme wind, rain and lightning across the state.

Beginning on Saturday, April 10, severe weather brought over 35,000 outages, primarily to the Baton Rouge area, including both distribution and transmission system damage. Just three days later, near tropical-storm force winds resulted in almost 30,000 outages in southeast Louisiana.

Three more consecutive days of strong storms with intense lightning then brought with it almost 50,000 outages over the three-day stretch, bringing the total to approximately 112,000 outages restored by crews in less than a week’s time with approximately 75,000 of those focused in the Baton Rouge region.

“Last week’s weather was more like a tropical system coming through than just a spring storm,” said John Hawkins, vice president of distribution operations for Louisiana. “I want to thank our crews for working diligently, but more importantly safely, to restore our communities. I also want to thank our customers for their patience and understanding as we dealt with restoration efforts in nearly every corner of our state.”

Outages were primarily caused by high-winds and lightning, with Friday’s storm alone seeing over 1,100 lightning strikes in just two hours.

While these events are uncommon, they serve as a reminder that severe weather can happen anytime and without warning. Entergy Louisiana encourages customers to have a plan in place for when these types of storms occur by visiting our .

Hurricane Zeta Restoration Update – 11/3/20 @ 7 p.m. /stormcenter/hurricane-zeta-restoration-update-11-3-20-7-p-m Wed, 04 Nov 2020 06:43:00 +0000 /hurricane-zeta-restoration-update-11-3-20-7-p-m Entergy’s storm team, currently 6,200, once again made great headway in the restoration process following Hurricane Zeta, bringing power back on to over 450,000 customers as of 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Now that the majority of customers have been restored from the peak of 481,000 across the state following Zeta’s landfall, crews will begin narrowing in on the hardest-hit areas. Those include Braithwait, Golden Meadow, Grand Isle, Lower Coast, McCleandonville, Pointe A Lahache, South Lafourche and Venetian Isles.

In some of the most affected areas in the path of Hurricane Zeta, crews are finding many rear-lot broken poles, which requires special equipment to replace and is a more time-consuming repair process. Crews are also encountering accessibility challenges that require specialized equipment like airboats and marsh buggies to reach damaged infrastructure. In addition, crews continue to clear vegetation and debris, including parts of roofs and tree limbs that, in some cases, are entangled in power lines.

The storm damaged over 2,700 poles, over 570 transformers and nearly 1,800 spans of wire.

Crews have restored power to almost 95% ofcustomers who lost power after Zeta, which was 1 mph shy of being a Category 3 hurricane, impacted southeast Louisiana with winds of 110 mph.

A detailed list of estimated restoration times for all areas impacted by the storm can be found below or by clicking the restoration information banner on the . As crews continue to restore power, we want to make sure customers can accept power when it becomes available.Check for damage to the electrical equipment attached to your home or business and contact an electrician to make needed repairs. For information on your home’s electrical equipment, visit. If damage has been repaired by a qualified electrician, call 1-800-ENTERGY to generate a service-reconnection work order.

While power restoration continues, customers may see that their neighbors have power restored before they do. That could mean that each customer is served by two different parts of the electric grid. Customers area also reminded that they could still be without power because electric equipment is damaged in portions of the system that they cannot see, sometimes miles away. Entergy is committed to repairing and rebuilding the electric system until every customer who was impacted by the storm has power available to them.

Stay Safe

Customers are reminded that there is no way to know if a downed line or other electrical equipment is energized. If you see one, keep your distance and call 1-800-9OUTAGE (800-968-8243).

Those choosing to use portable electric generators should do so in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Customers must never connect a generator directly to a building’s wiring without a licensed electrician disconnecting the house wiring from Entergy’s service. Otherwise, it can create a safety hazard for the customer or our linemen working to restore power. And it may damage the generator or the house wiring.

Restoration workers who discover a generator attached directly to Entergy’s system will work with the customer to disconnect the generator. As a last resort, the restoration worker will disconnect the customer’s service connection to Entergy, which may take an extended time to reconnect due to the extensive restoration effort underway. A set of generator safety tips can be found at .

We urge customers to keep streets open for local emergency vehicles and workers. Additionally, crews will continue to practice social distancing and we ask customers do the same. For the safety of crews and other first responders, stay away from work zones. Customers needing assistance should call 1-800-ENTERGY.

Halloween Safety Reminder: Zeta Restoration Work /blog/halloween-safety-reminder-zeta-restoration-work Sat, 31 Oct 2020 21:54:00 +0000 /halloween-safety-reminder-zeta-restoration-work Just two days after Category 2 Hurricane Zeta hit Southeast Louisiana, Entergy has restored power to over half of all customers who were affected and will be on the streets restoring power through the night with a workforce of 5,700.

Safety is our number one priority and we know that it’s parents’ number one priority for their children as well. We want to make sure everyone has safety at the forefront given this year’s unique challenges.

In addition to COVID-19 precautions and traditional traffic concerns during Halloween, parents should remember that this year we are faced with hurricane recovery as well, including debris, downed limbs and lines, and areas of limited power and lighting. Along with those circumstances, this will likely be the first time that widespread, heavy construction activities will be taking place in neighborhoods to restore power and lighting while children are enjoying their trick-or-treating.

Please be aware of your surroundings and:

  1. Keep your distance from our crews while they work, for their safety and yours.
  2. Stay away from downed lines and other electrical equipment. If you see one, call 1-800-9OUTAGE.

Safety reminders and the most up-to-date restoration information, including detailed restoration times, can be found on the website.
