Beginning in the shadows of the Superdome and trekking through the French Quarter before heading into the Garden District and across City Park, cyclists enjoyed some iconic New Orleans sites on the 20-mile and 32-mile courses that stretched along the closed streets of the Crescent City.

The casual, social and cultural ride highlights the city’s more than 100 miles of bike paths made possible in part by contributions from Entergy shareholders. The paths and the event encourage ecotourism and healthy lifestyles and contribute to New Orleans’ rank as one of the most bike-friendly cities in America.

Bike the Big Easy also raises awareness for Գٱ’s The Power to Care. A portion of the proceeds from the 2017 ride benefits the fund, which assists seniors and disabled individuals in crisis with their Entergy bills. Entergy customers, employees and shareholders contributed more than $200,000 to Entergy New Orleans’ Power to Care fund in 2016, helping over 1,000 elderly or disabled customers with bill payment assistance. We can only be as successful as the communities we serve, and giving back to the community is an integral part of Գٱ’s corporate mission.

Entergy Scores ‘Best Place to Work’ Honor on DEI® /blog/entergy-scores-best-place-work-honor-on-dei Thu, 14 Sep 2017 06:00:00 +0000 /entergy-scores-best-place-work-honor-on-dei Entergy’s 2017 ® score of 90 has classified the company as one of the best places to work for people with disabilities.

The DEI®, a joint initiative of the American Association of People with Disabilities and the U.S. Business Leadership Network®, is an annual benchmarking tool that scores businesses on a scale of zero to 100 on their disability inclusion policies and practices. Participating companies are scored in four categories: culture and leadership, enterprise access, employment practices, and community engagement and support services.

Entergy received the maximum points allowed on three of the four categories – culture and leadership, employment practices and enterprise access, bringing the company’s overall score to 90. Companies scoring 80 and above are classified by the index as best places to work for people with disabilities.

Top scoring companies on the 2017 DEI® were recognized at U.S. Business Leadership Network’s 20th annual conference Aug. 23 in Florida.

Entergy continues to improve its disability inclusion practices and policies. A cornerstone of our culture is respect, respect for every individual regardless of race, color, sex, religion, pregnancy condition, nationality, age, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, veteran’s or marital status, disability or any other cultural factor. We believe our company is stronger through an inclusive culture.

Entergy Demonstrates Commitment to Wetlands Restoration /blog/entergy-demonstrates-commitment-wetlands-restoration Fri, 09 Jun 2017 06:00:00 +0000 /entergy-demonstrates-commitment-wetlands-restoration A large portion of Entergy’s customer base and the majority of its utility infrastructure are in the Gulf Coast region. Recognizing that sea level rise and coastal erosion are risks to our assets and the customers we serve, Entergy has worked to support programs that help restore and rebuild the wetlands that serve as natural protection in severe weather situations.

Recently, we joined our partners at Tierra Resources to speak with Peter O’Dowd of Here and Now on WBUR about why that work is so important:

Hurricane preparedness begins long before June 1 for Entergy /blog/hurricane-preparedness-doesnt-begin-on-june-1-for-entergy Thu, 01 Jun 2017 06:00:00 +0000 /hurricane-preparedness-doesnt-begin-on-june-1-for-entergy As hurricane season begins, residents across the Entergy service territory are preparing their homes and businesses prior to the potential of a storm hitting. At Entergy, preparations are an ongoing, year-round process.

We continually invest in making our electrical network stronger and more resilient so that when there are outages associated with any weather event, we can return electrical service to our customers as soon as safely possible. Over the past couple of years, improvements have been made to the Entergy system with storm hardening work that includes enhanced pole inspection and replacement, circuit reconfiguration and other targeted measures across the system. This is on top of the hardening work done across Louisiana and Texas in the years post-Hurricane Katrina.

Being storm ready starts with monitoring weather threats 24/7, 365 days a year. When a weather threat is confirmed, Entergy forms early predictions regarding the number of power outages a storm could cause and how long restoration might take based on past experience, weather forecasts and computer modeling.

Assessing damage, deploying personnel to the right place with the right materials and restoring power, are all processes Entergy continually plans for and improves, thanks to ongoing preparedness and training.

Recently, employees across the Entergy system concluded our annual storm drill to make sure all of our procedures are reviewed and updated prior to the beginning of hurricane season. These measures help our employees across our network understand their roles and responsibilities required to do their jobs safely and efficiently in the event of a storm.Just as important as restoring power is the company’s ability to keep customers informed.

Entergy does this in a number of ways:

  • An app is available for iPhone or Android at entergy.com/app. Customers can use the app to report outages or check on the status of power at their home or business.
  • Գٱ’s View Outages website includes maps that show where outages are located and give information about restoration progress.
  • Entergy sends and can receive about storm and restoration efforts. Customers can sign up by texting REG to 368374.
  • The website has storm safety, preparation and restoration information that is updated throughout the day.
  • is a free downloadable guide that helps customers plan and prepare for weather emergencies.
  • Social media plays an important role in keeping customers informed, and Entergy places a high priority on keeping its social media sites updated throughout an event. Follow Entergy at Twitter: and .

While the hope is that no weather events threaten our area, we understand that the possibility exists, which is why it is important that Entergy employees fully prepared to safely respond.
