She’s been part of the Entergy family for nine years.

What’s your power principle? My power principle starts with accountability and integrity. I have a strong sense of accountability for doing my best at whatever task I’m assigned, regardless of the accolades. At the end of the day, living a life of integrity is one of my most essential aims.

What motivates you to live and work safely? My family and Entergy work family motivate me. Everything one does in life has a trickle-down effect, so I always try to look at the bigger picture and align my actions accordingly.

What’s the best work-related advice you’ve ever been given? It’s an old quote, but one I have found to be tried and true: be careful how you treat people on your way up, because you may need those same people on your way down. I was raised to believe that you don’t have to step over someone else to advance in your career. Your gift will make room for you, and when it’s your time, nothing will be able to stop you!

He’s been part of the Entergy family for 14 years.

What’s your power principle at work? My power principle is to lead by example in the areas of safety, procedure use and adherence. If we all work safely and within our procedures, we’ll all go home the same way we came to work – error-free.

What motivates you to live and work safe? My family motivates me to live and work safely. Also, in nuclear we have an obligation to the millions of people we serve to ensure public safety.

How do you balance work and family? The balance of work and family has always been a challenge for me because I’ve worked half of my career at Entergy on the night shift. Although I’ve missed out on a lot of family events, I always look for ways to show my family I care. Whether it’s waking my kids up for school, fixing their breakfast or putting them on the bus – I cherish the small things I get to do with my kids and try to create as many memories as possible.

Power Principles: A Conversation with Fred Hopkins /blog/power-principles-conversation-with-fred-hopkins Fri, 23 Jun 2017 06:00:00 +0000 /power-principles-conversation-with-fred-hopkins Fred Hopkins, assistant engineering design manager at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, has been a part of the Entergy family for nine years.

What’s your power principle at work? My power principle is to always treat people the way you would like to be treated. Approach each job and each task with honesty, respect and integrity.

What motivates you to live and work safely? My family!

How do you balance work and family life? As a nuclear manager, I’m often called on to help resolve emergent issues and work nontraditional hours. It’s hard to plan events with my family due to my workload, but I carve out as much time as possible to take family vacations. I try to spend quality time with my family without interruptions from my cell phone, including answering emails that can wait until the next business day. I’m also heavily involved with my son’s little league football team, serving as a coach. This helps create a healthy work-life balance.

What should others know about Entergy? Entergy is a great company to work for and promotes a teamwork environment.

What was your proudest moment at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station? My proudest moment at Grand Gulf thus far was when I was promoted to a supervisory role. To have my peers and colleagues support my career aspirations meant a lot to me, and to have the respect of my team is invaluable.

Power Principles: A Conversation with Kim Welch /blog/power-principles-conversation-with-kim-welch Sat, 03 Jun 2017 02:58:00 +0000 /power-principles-conversation-with-kim-welch Kim Welch is a project manager at Entergy Nuclear headquarters in Jackson, Mississippi, and has been with the Entergy family for five years.

What’s your power principle at work? My power principle is to always be a team player and promote teamwork. The success of a team is dependent on many factors ─ effective communication, trust, honesty and respect. My team is more than just the individuals I know and work with. My team is the organization in its entirety, so it’s my goal to be a team player in any endeavor. I work with the mindset that my successes and failures, both big and small, not only matter to me, but contribute to team effectiveness.

What motivates you to live and work safely? Multiple influences motivate me to live and work safely, including lessons learned from past experiences of my own and others. I realize that my actions to live and work safely are important not only to me, but to my family as well as my organization.

How do you balance work and family life? As a single mom, balancing work and my family is probably one of the more challenging aspects of my life. Success requires hard work and dedication and is something I desire both professionally and personally. At times when I have fallen short in an area, I have to reflect and regroup. I’ve been fortunate throughout my career to have understanding and supportive leadership that provides me with both mentoring and encouragement. I’ve also come to realize that I can’t do everything all of the time, so I have to be strategic when prioritizing projects and tasks.

How did you first learn about Entergy? I first learned about Entergy while working as a supplemental employee at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in 2012, during the extended power uprate refueling outage.

What do you want others to know about Entergy? Entergy is a respectable corporation that makes stakeholders’ best interests their top priority. I love the continuous community engagement and outreach Entergy provides across its multiple locations. While the company is quite large, I still feel the sense of unity and pride that can often be lost within an organization of this size. I am honored to be a part of the Entergy family.

Power Principles: A Conversation with Tim Kloiber /blog/power-principles-conversation-with-tim-kloiber Wed, 24 May 2017 02:31:00 +0000 /power-principles-conversation-with-tim-kloiber Tim Kloiber is a procurement specialist at Indian Point ϳԹ Center and has been with the Entergy family for seven months.

What’s your power principle at work? My power principle is to always be respectful of others’ morals and values. Although I may not always agree with someone else’s opinion, I will always listen with an open mind and never infringe on someone else’s belief system.

What motivates you to live and work safely? My wife and son motivate me to live and work safely. My son waits for me to come home at the end of the day and waves excitedly when I pull into the driveway. It’s a priceless image I couldn’t bear to lose.

How do you balance work and family life? The balance of work and family can be an occasional challenge. Letting your loved ones know how important they are to you is a practice to live by. Plant life tests your personal endurance and challenges your family to fulfill the responsibilities of the household that you might not be able to fulfill. Telling your family that you appreciate all that they do makes the sacrifice that much easier for everyone.

How did you first learn about Indian Point ϳԹ Center? I learned about Indian Point from my current supervisor, Melissa Merz. At the time, we were both working as industrial supply vendors for Entergy. We were competing vendors selling similar parts, tools, fasteners and consumables to Entergy. When Merz joined the Indian Point ϳԹ Center team as an employee, I asked her to keep me in the loop for any opportunities that might arise within supply chain. She did just that, and I’ll be forever grateful to her.

What’s your power principle? My power principle is to be respectful and lend a helping hand whenever possible, whether it’s at work or home.

What motivates you to live and work safely? My family motivates me to live safely. I’m a wife, mother of three and grandmother of two. My family is the love of my life, and I want to be here for years to come.

Do you have a favorite work project? In 2009, I was selected to be part of the implementation team for a significant software system upgrade. I then had the opportunity to lead the class to teach my fellow River Bend administrative team. It was an honor and privilege to serve on this project. I learned a lot about what goes on behind the scenes in putting a program together.

When did you first learn about Entergy’s River Bend Nuclear Station? When I was 22 years old, I moved back home from Texas and was looking for work. Since my sister was working in the mailroom at River Bend, I decided to try my luck and apply. To my surprise, the contracting company, Stone & Webster, hired me.

What’s your best work-related advice? Be audacious when creating your goals – dream big.

When did you first learn about Entergy’s Waterford 3 Steam Electric Station? While preparing to end my active duty in the U.S. Nuclear Navy, one of my peers obtained a copy of a list of all of the nuclear stations in the country, along with addresses and points of contact. To my surprise and delight, I found Waterford 3 – just about 100 miles away from my hometown. The rest is history.
