The foundation of our resilience plan, which was originally filed with the LPSC over 16 months ago, lies in a proactive approach to grid modernization, guided by data-driven insights and a commitment to delivering maximum value to our customers. Beyond mitigating storm-related disruptions, our vision encompasses broader benefits, including enhanced everyday reliability of electric service and streamlined operational efficiencies.

Our resilience plan is a proactive approach that will help bring more of our electric infrastructure up to higher standards, keep pace with Mother Nature and protect what matters most — customers, homes and businesses within the communities we serve. Although we have been building resilience into our power grid for years, we must accelerate those efforts now in light of the reality that storms are becoming more frequent and severe.

By strategically investing in grid hardening projects, we anticipate significant cost savings for customers over the long term. These savings extend beyond storm restoration expenses by minimizing economic disruptions and helping businesses and residents get back on their feet sooner.

Phase one of our resilience plan includes a diverse portfolio of projects, ranging from transmission line enhancements to distribution system upgrades.

Addressing concerns about affordability, we recognize the importance of balancing resilience with cost-effectiveness. While initial investments may result in modest bill adjustments, starting at 57 cents per month for a typical residential customer, the long-term benefits — both in terms of cost savings and enhanced quality of life — far outweigh the associated costs.

Entergy Louisiana’s resilience plan represents more than just infrastructure upgrades — it’s a testament to our unwavering dedication to the communities we serve.

Happy holidays from Entergy Louisiana /blog/happy-holidays-from-entergy-louisiana Tue, 19 Dec 2023 21:23:00 +0000 /happy-holidays-from-entergy-louisiana Greetings and happy holidays,

With the holiday season upon us, I wanted to thank you for your continued support throughout this past year. It has been appreciated because 2023 saw our company put forth major initiatives to better serve our customers and our communities.

We made great strides in providing you with clean and affordable power from diverse sources. Currently before the Louisiana Public Service Commission is a plan that would diversify our power generation mix by adding to complement our existing natural gas and nuclear power fleet. This balanced approach helps protect both customer bills and the natural resources we all enjoy.

This year, Entergy Louisiana also filed its customer-focused over the summer that would pave the way for a one of the most comprehensive in Louisiana history. Not only would the plan be done in a way that maintains low rates, but it would also hold our company accountable for providing you with high levels of service.

We are also proud of the role we have played this year in helping drive economic development success in the place we call home.

In 2024, we plan to continue our efforts to provide clean, affordable power; harden the grid for stronger, more frequent storms; and partner with our communities to spur more economic growth. We know we can accomplish these things with the support of our customers who inspire us every day to go the extra mile… because, together, we power life.

Thank you,

Entergy chiefs: We all have a stake in a cleaner environment through lower emissions (The Advocate) /blog/entergy-chiefs-we-all-have-stake-in-cleaner-environment-through-lower-emissions Tue, 15 Feb 2022 21:00:00 +0000 /entergy-chiefs-we-all-have-stake-in-cleaner-environment-through-lower-emissions The Gulf South, particularly communities within Louisiana, is home to the largest industrial economy in the United States. The energy needs of this group of customers is unique and energy demands are growing, including new industry coming to Louisiana. Developing environmental policy that balances the needs of this industry and their associated jobs with the future of our state and region is critical for a prosperous, sustainable future.

Governor John Bel Edwards’ recently released Climate Action Plan does just that. It focuses on increased electrification of the state’s large industrial operations with clean, renewable power. This aspect of the plan aligns with Entergy’s own climate objectives and our focus on serving customers. While we may not agree with all the methodologies laid out in the Climate Action Plan, we understand that the administration is recognizing this national trend in needed climate action.

Our state’s large industrial customers set important greenhouse gas emission reduction goals for their businesses, and powering their operations with cleaner energy, including renewables, helps them achieve their objectives. A recent example is Entergy Louisiana’s collaboration with .

It is important to many large industrial customers that the electricity they increasingly require to power their equipment and operations be not only clean, but also affordable and reliable.

Entergy is well-positioned to provide the abundant amounts of power that fuels this growth and the growth of our entire region. We provide power at rates below the national average, and the power we generate is some of the cleanest among large-scale power companies in the nation. This potent combination of low rates and increasingly clean power is helping our customers grow their businesses and meet their environmental goals.

Clean, affordable and reliable power drives economic growth, resulting in increased investment and good paying, clean energy jobs in our communities. We look forward to continuing to do our part to help Louisiana thrive for generations to come.

Creating Sustainability Through Innovation /blog/creating-sustainability-through-innovation Mon, 14 Dec 2020 23:57:00 +0000 /creating-sustainability-through-innovation At Entergy Louisiana, we’re getting creative to help our customers and our communities thrive. Through partnerships, innovation and new technologies, we’re working to provide tailored customer solutions that help create a more sustainable world, which benefits us all.

Recently, Entergy Louisiana, along with Edison Chouest Offshore, a global leader in the maritime transportation industry, brought shoreside electricity to Louisiana’s southernmost port. The shore power project at Port Fourchon is an example of how Entergy Louisiana is providing electric service where and how a customer needs it while protecting the environment and improving quality of life for others in the region.

We extended our electrical system at the port so that Edison Chouest Offshore could take advantage of technology it developed, plug docked marine vessels into the power grid and use electricity instead of diesel fuel-generated power. Using shoreside electricity improves operational efficiency of the vessels and reduces maintenance costs through fewer oil changes, for example. It also helps protect the environment by lowering emissions.

We’re proud to have worked with Edison Chouest Offshore to bring shoreside electricity to Port Fourchon because it shows what can be accomplished when we’re committed to innovation and bettering our world. It’s only fitting that the project earned them recognition as Corporate Conservationist of the Year 2019 by the Louisiana Wildlife Federation. This is just the beginning, and through strong, productive partnerships, we can discover what else is possible.

There’s a group of employees at our company dedicated to doing just that. KeyString Labs, our innovation department, is helping us identify opportunities like shoreside electricity by fostering collaboration across the company and our communities. We’ll continue to explore opportunities to improve our customers’ everyday lives because creating a sustainable world requires all of us working together. At Entergy Louisiana — we’re all in.

Clean, carbon-free energy – Nuclear helps power Louisiana’s bright future /blog/clean-carbon-free-energy-nuclear-helps-power-louisiana-s-bright-future Fri, 18 Oct 2019 20:08:00 +0000 /clean-carbon-free-energy-nuclear-helps-power-louisiana-s-bright-future If you have spent any time with me, I am sure you have heard me talk about Entergy Louisiana’s clean, affordable and reliable power. It is a competitive advantage that helps our Louisiana communities prosper. But, are you aware of how nuclear power helps us achieve that goal?

In 2018, Entergy Louisiana avoided emissions of carbon dioxide equal to the amount released in a year by more than 2.5 million passenger cars. How? With the safe, reliable, emission-free operations of our River Bend and Waterford 3 nuclear plants, operated by hundreds of dedicated and highly-trained nuclear professionals.

Nuclear energy is also the only source of clean energy that can produce the large amounts of electricity needed around-the-clock to power Louisiana homes and businesses

More than 90 percent of the state’s carbon-free power comes from the company’s two nuclear plants. This benefits the environment, including the air we breathe, by helping to avoid emissions that contribute to climate change and public health issues.

In addition to generating 16 percent of Louisiana’s electricity, the nuclear plants play a vital role in meeting our customers’ expectations for clean and affordable energy. Across the country, nuclear energy generates 20 percent of our nation’s electricity and provides 56 percent of our emission-free power, making it an essential partner for renewable energy.

Louisiana benefits from nuclear power in many other ways. Waterford 3 and River Bend operated more than 88% of the time (over the course of the last three years) and produced more than 17.3 million megawatt-hours of electricity in 2018 powering homes, businesses and communities throughout the state.

For Entergy Louisiana, our nuclear plants also are about community. In 2018, River Bend and Waterford 3 contributed more than $225,000 in charitable contributions to local nonprofit groups and civic organizations. And our employees volunteered hundreds of hours supporting initiatives to strengthen schools and improve our environment.

Plant employees also help drive the local economies. The plants support 1,500 direct jobs plus hundreds of additional contractors and supply chain partners during scheduled refueling and maintenance outages. Employees and their families spend millions of dollars with local businesses, further investing in local communities.

Most importantly, our nuclear operations are about safety. Working with our regulators and industry peers, we continue to implement best practices that enhance our ongoing commitment to safe, reliable, event-free operations.

In December, The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission renewed the licenses for Waterford 3 and River Bend for an additional 20 years paving the way for Entergy Louisiana to continue providing safe, secure, affordable, reliable and clean energy.

Nuclear energy plays a critical role in maintaining the diverse supply of fuels used to generate electricity in the state of Louisiana. Fuel diversity contributes to the reliability, resiliency and affordability of the energy grid.

Nuclear energy also plays a critical role in Entergy’s leadership in reducing carbon emissions, including meeting our new goal of reducing our emissions intensity to half what it was in 2000 by 2030. By further reducing our impact on the environment, Entergy is helping meet industry and global sustainability goals that help ensure a bright future for all of us.

I am proud of the hard work our entire nuclear team accomplishes every day, on every task, and that we continue delivering safe, reliable and clean energy to our customers as we work together to become the premier utility focused on our stakeholders of customers, employees, communities and owners.

Helping bring a brighter future to our youngest customers /blog/helping-bring-brighter-future-our-youngest-customers Thu, 30 May 2019 16:00:00 +0000 /helping-bring-brighter-future-our-youngest-customers It’s been nearly 20 years since Entergy’s former CEO, the late Wayne Leonard, saw the critical need for businesses to support childhood education programs and organizations. Through an economic study, we found that every dollar spent on high-quality early childhood education returns $9 in benefits to society.

Investments by the state of Louisiana, nonprofit organizations, businesses and industries in educational programs help our communities grow and thrive. These investments are paying off. In 2018, a record number of Louisiana students graduated from high school, according to.

For more than two decades, we’ve partnered with organizations such as the Louisiana Policy Institute for Children, Stand for Children, the Early Childhood Coalition, and the United Way of Southeast Louisiana to support research and advocacy initiatives that have focused attention on early childhood education. Because of partnerships like these, more than 90% of at-risk 4-year-old children in Louisiana now have access to early childhood education.

While our efforts are making an impact, we can’t overlook the influence a lack of availability to early childhood education has on our most vulnerable citizens and society. When it comes to children from birth to age 3, we have a significant gap to fill with fewer than 15 percent of at-risk children being served.

We’re going to continue to look for ways to work with our nonprofit leaders and our elected representatives to help prioritize funding and support for early child care and education in Louisiana.

A bright economic future for Louisiana depends on our ability to create a solid foundation for even our youngest customers.

By investing in education, infrastructure or working to attract new jobs, Entergy is focused on creating a brighter future for all our communities.

A Message from Phillip May: Stepping Beyond the Grid /blog/message-from-phillip-may-stepping-beyond-grid Tue, 09 Apr 2019 21:50:00 +0000 /message-from-phillip-may-stepping-beyond-grid Pictured, from left, are Jody Montelaro, vice president of public affairs for Entergy Louisiana; Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana president and CEO; Ed Jimenez, director of business and economic development for Entergy in Louisiana; and Stephen Waguespack, Louisiana Association of Business and Industry president.

Look around and you’ll find that much of what we use in our daily lives — like a can of paint, PVC pipe or a computer — is made from building blocks produced by companies here in Louisiana.Entergy Louisiana plays a big role in helping those companies continue to grow.

That’s why we’re incredibly proud to have received the 2018 Manufacturer of the Year Award from the .

A resilient power grid and affordable energy provide the foundation upon which a strong Louisiana economy is built — but it’s just step one in the .

Our infrastructure extends across the state. We bring power to the manufacturers producing compressors and pumps and paper packages in Monroe, plastics and chemicals in St. James Parish, and fuels and petrochemicals in the Lake Charles area. It also helps drive military training at Fort Polk and ship building and operations at Port Fourchon, a seaport that plays a role in supplying nearly 18 percent of the nation’s oil.

And as Stephen Waguespack, LABI president, said during the Free Enterprise Awards ceremony, “It doesn’t happen without the juice.”

We will continue to power homes, small businesses and industries now and into the future through a three-year, $4 billion capital plan that will benefit and diversify our generation, transmission and distribution assets.

Low energy rates coupled with world-class infrastructure and a highly-skilled workforceare part of why Louisiana has led the nation in foreign direct investment per capita and is second only to North Dakota in percentage growth in industrial electricity sales. This translates to new jobs and improvements to our streets, schools and neighborhoods: a better quality of life.

But to complete the circuit and help all Louisianans achieve their full potential, we must do more than produce power. We must step beyond the grid.

We can’t do it alone. That’s why we collaborate with community partners like LABI and other organizations to reach all Louisianans.

I would like to thank Stephen and LABI for their commitment to sustaining Louisiana as a great place to do business. I’d also like to congratulate all of during the awards ceremony, many of whom are community partners.

Together, let’s continue to Power Life in our great state.
