Despite freezing temperatures and snow days that led to food packing site reschedules, Entergy volunteers showed up geared and ready.

At Entergy, our commitment goes well beyond providing reliable power – we strive to make a meaningful impact in the communities we serve. For more than two decades, Entergy has empowered employees to make a meaningful impact in the fight against hunger through volunteerism. That’s why our employees teamed up with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, and Healthy Blue, Louisiana Blue to help fight food insecurity in Louisiana. Together, volunteers packed more than 200,000 meals for families in need.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 47 million people in the United States face hunger, including one in five children. This collective effort not only enabled us to meet our goal of supporting our customers, neighbors, and families in need but also played a crucial role in addressing hunger in our communities.

“Martin Luther King Jr. Day is more than about what we can do as a company to help others, but also about using our resources to join hands with community partners to assist those In critical need,” said Phillip May, president and CEO of Entergy Louisiana. “With more than a century of service and a commitment to building a more vibrant Louisiana, Entergy Louisiana remains committed to giving back through volunteerism, advocacy, financial support and partnerships that help strengthen the communities we serve.”

Entergy reminds customers of bill management and assistance options following extreme winter weather /blog/entergy-reminds-customers-of-bill-management-and-assistance-options-following-extreme-winter-weather Wed, 05 Feb 2025 22:32:23 +0000 /?p=13535 Entergy Louisiana is reminding customers about available bill management andassistanceresources after the company’s service area saw historic winter and record-breaking energy demand in January.

“Our region has faced intense and prolonged winter weather this January, leading to increased energy usage as customers worked to keep their homes warm,” said Elizabeth Adams, Entergy chief customer officer. “Higher usage can lead to higher-than-normal bills, but we’re here to help with a variety of resources, tools and payment options to support our customers through the winter season.”

Extreme weather impact and historic energy demand

January brought prolonged stretches of below-freezing temperatures to many communities across Entergy’s service area. In the Greater New Orleans area, snowfall totals exceeded eight inches, breaking the previous official record of 2.7 inches set in 1963. Southwest Louisiana and the Capital Region also saw record-setting snowfall, with some areas accumulating up to a foot.

During January, metropolitan areas across Entergy’s service area experienced prolonged stretches of temperatures 20 to 30 degrees below the average low. In fact, temperatures in our region were consistently lower than normal through January 26.

It takes a lot of power to heat homes, and this increased energy consumption can lead to higher-than-normal bills. For example, if it is 90 degrees outside and you want to cool your home to 72, that is a difference of 18 degrees. Meanwhile, if it is 30 degrees outside and you want to warm your home to 68, that is a difference of 38 degrees. The wider the temperature difference, the harder your system works.

This extreme weather caused historic energy consumption as customers relied heavily on heaters and other appliances to stay warm. Entergy and its subsidiaries, excluding Entergy Mississippi, experienced a new peak load of approximately 21,336 megawatt-hours during the week of January 20, surpassing the previous record by nearly 790 MWh. Entergy Louisiana saw the highest percent increase at 7.2%.

ϳԹ usage varies by household

While cold weather drives increased energy consumption, the impact on individual customers varies based on numerous factors, such as thermostat settings, home size, insulation and location.

Resources to track usage and manage bills

Entergy’s Bill Toolkit is a one-stop resource connecting customers to tools and information to better manage their energy bills. The toolkit offers guidance on tracking energy usage, understanding bill projections and accessing payment assistance options. Key resources include:

  • Bill analyzer tools:Help customers understand changes in their energy consumption and plan accordingly.
  • Differentpaymentoptions:Programs like Level Billing, AutoPay and Pick-A-Date can provide a more consistent monthly bill and offer control over payment schedules.

These tools empower customers to make informed decisions, monitortheir energy consumption and budget effectively.

Billassistanceoptions

Entergy is committed to supporting customers with various bill management resources:

  • Deferred payment arrangements:Customers may be able to spread payments over time by putting in a request through myEntergy or the mobile app or by calling over the phone.

  • The Power to Care:Provides emergency bill payment assistance for seniors and disabled individuals through local nonprofit partners.
  • partnership:Entergy has partnered with Single Stop, a free resource that helps customers check eligibility for federal, state and local benefits.

With winter weather not yet over, Entergy urges customers to take proactive steps to weatherize their homes and improve energy efficiency. Simple measures, such as caulking, sealing windows and doors or using programmable thermostats, can help reduce energy usage and costs.

Customers in need of assistance or interested in bill management resources are encouraged to visitor contact Entergy at 1-800-ENTERGY (1-800-368-3749).

Entergy Louisiana preparing for colder temperatures /blog/entergy-louisiana-preparing-for-colder-temperatures Thu, 16 Jan 2025 22:01:16 +0000 /?p=13460 Colder temperatures have arrived, with even more frigid weather expected in the coming weeks and months. Even in places where extremely cold temperatures are not persistent, it’s still important to be prepared for freezing and inclement weather. As we know, cold snaps can happen without much warning.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s, a developing La Niña is expected to persist through the winter season. We can expect a warmer and drier season for our four-state service area. However, a sudden stratospheric disturbance or SSD is possible this season which can lead to short but extremely cold weather fronts like those we endured in recent years.

Over the past few years, parts of our service area experienced severe winter weather that brought high winds, freezing rains and ice accumulation. While weather can be unpredictable, we remain storm ready no matter the season.

We’re storm ready, 365 days a year

To ensure our company and customers are prepared for the winter weather ahead, we continue to implement unique readiness plans at each power plant and review measures taken with transmission lines and transmission facilities, while reviewing critical systems and infrastructure preparedness across the grid.

When a weather threat arises, we. We use forecasts and computer models based on experience with previous storms to predict damages and associated restoration resource needs. Based on those estimates, the company may call onif needed to aid in restoring power safely and quickly for our customers. Entergy continuously plans and improves the process of assessing damage, positioning personnel in the right place with the required materials to restore power as safely and quickly as possible.

We take steps to maintain and control vegetation across our service area, completing annual clearing of right-of-way areas to minimize the impact from fallen trees or branches following a storm. Prior to storms impacting our area, vegetation crews perform pre-storm patrols of circuits to mitigate any imminent threats within the right of way. Our year-round storm preparations include the vegetation management program and the targeted “ground to sky”vegetation trimming, which removes tree limbs that would normally have been above the power line. We also use artificial intelligence and satellite imagery to help predict when trimming may be needed.

Clean air vacuum breaker installed in Jennings as part of achieving company sustainability goals /blog/clean-air-vacuum-breaker-installed-in-jennings-as-part-of-achieving-company-sustainability-goals Wed, 11 Dec 2024 20:50:00 +0000 /?p=13278 In early November, Entergy Louisiana’s specialized substation technicians installed and energized a high-voltage clean-air vacuum breaker at the Jennings substation. This new equipment is part of the first few installations for Entergy’s four-state service area and the first installment of this size in the country for the manufacturing partner.

In our efforts to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, Entergy is deploying multiple sustainable solutions from building solar generation and working to upgrade equipment like circuit breakers and cleaner technology.

The all-new circuit breakeris a 145kV high-voltage clean air vacuum breaker that replaced a high-voltage oil circuit breaker used to control the flow of power on the electric transmission system. The equipment uses a clean air mix of 80% nitrogen and 20% oxygen for its insulating medium rather than sulfur hexafluoride, a potent greenhouse gas. Energized November 6, 2024, the gas-free breaker is a pilot project we will monitor to understand how this kind of technology can help reduce our greenhouse gas footprint and emissions.

“Upgrading our electric grid and testing new advanced technology will not only help us reach sustainability goals, but also offers the best solutions to the communities we serve,” said Jason Willis, Entergy Louisiana vice president of reliability. “we’re excited to be at the forefront of innovation now and in the future.”

Entergy Louisiana and Entergy New Orleans welcome fall with safety reminders /blog/entergy-louisiana-entergy-new-orleans-welcome-fall-with-safety-reminders Wed, 25 Sep 2024 19:20:00 +0000 /entergy-louisiana-entergy-new-orleans-welcome-fall-with-safety-reminders These simple tips can help you avoid accidents and injuries

The start of cooler temperatures outside makes fall-lovers eager for coats, sweaters and all the seasonal fun that begins in October. This time of year can also bring opportunities for customers to tackle home improvement or landscaping projects. As fun and gratifying as these activities can be, no one wants them to result in an accident or injury. Entergy Louisiana and Entergy New Orleans have some helpful tips for staying safe this fall.

Stay safe outdoors

The Halloween season brings children the fun of wearing costumes, enjoying candy and attending fall festivals and carnivals. The offers tips to help children celebrate safely. Prepare to welcome trick-or-treaters to your home safely by checking outdoor lights and making sure walkways and steps are well-lighted and free of any tripping hazards. Any extension cords should be specifically designated for outdoor use. Use rubber gaskets in light sockets or hang sockets downward to keep water out and remember to turn outside lights and decorations off when you are away from home or asleep. Help children with videos, activities and other resources.

Keep safety first with home projects

Fall is a great time to tidy up and prep your property for winter. When cleaning up fallen leaves and branches or trimming trees, always use caution and be aware of overhead lines. Position your ladder away from overhead wires, so trimmings will not fall onto power lines. If this happens, always assume downed wires are energized and call 1-800-ENTERGY for help.

If your fall spruce-up includes digging up flower beds, trees or shrubs, remember to call before you dig. Calling 811 before you dig will keep you safe and prevent disruption of utility services to your neighborhood.

When performing maintenance activities that require a ladder inside or out, be sure to wear proper footwear, position the ladder on a flat surface, and have someone nearby to spot you.

Daylight Saving Time ends November 3

When Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, Nov. 3, fewer hours of daylight will make it harder to see children going to and from the school bus in the mornings and evenings. When driving, avoid distractions and watch for children in the neighborhood. The offers additional tips for ensuring children arrive to and from school safely.

When setting your clocks to fall back an hour, take the time to check the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. All homes should contain a carbon monoxidedetector to help identifythecolorless and odorless gas that can cause serious illness or death.

Stay safe and warm indoors

Candles can add a warm ambience to an autumn evening, but remember it is never safe to leave candles burning unattended. A small sputter or an errant flame can cause a fire in an instant.

They are large consumers of energy and a fire hazard which should be kept at least three feet away from draperies, rugs and furniture. Additionally, homeowners who use a gas or electric furnace should schedule an appointment for service by a certified technician to make sure it is safe for operation and operating efficiently.

A wood-burning stove or fireplace can add warmth and coziness to a room but should also be used with caution and proper preparation. Have your chimney cleaned by a professional before the first fire is lit. Fallen leaves, animal nests and other debris can cause the smoke to vent into your home rather than outside and cause a fire.

Remember to replace dirty air filters inside and remove debris from the unit outside to ensure your HVAC unit works efficiently through all seasons.

Be ready for inclement weather

lasts through the end of November, so it is important to not let your guard down even when the weather begins to cool. Prepare now for severe weather that may come your way by

Entergy Louisiana and Entergy New Orleans recognize National Safe Digging Month /blog/breaking-ground-building-safety-entergy-louisiana-entergy-new-orleans-recognize-national-safe Mon, 01 Apr 2024 20:35:00 +0000 /breaking-ground-building-safety-entergy-louisiana-entergy-new-orleans-recognize-national-safe Spring is here and with warmer temperatures on the way, this is the prime season to start home improvement and landscaping projects. April is National Safe Digging Month,Entergy Louisiana and Entergy New Orleans are reminding you to call 811 before digging into your list of spring projects.

National Safe Digging Month serves as a reminder to all people who excavate or dig to call 811 at least two full business days before digging to have the approximate location of their utility lines marked. This process helps prevent injuries, property damage and inconvenient utility outages.

The focus of National Safe Digging Month is on preventing serious consequences that could occur from digging without knowing what’s below the surface – not only now, but year-round. Regardless of what you plan to do, how deep you plan to dig or even if you’ve called before for a similar project, every job requires a call first.

“It’s equally as important to locate underground utilities as it is to keep your distance from overhead power lines,” said Steven Benyard, Entergy’s vice president of reliability in Louisiana. “Everyone – homeowners, business owners and contractors – should call 811 to avoid potential service interruptions and personal injuries. We want to remind everyone to stay safe, every job deserves a call.”

The depth of underground utility lines varies and there may be multiple utility lines in one common area. The risk of striking underground utility lines exists even when digging only a few inches.

Louisiana has its own 811 call center that can help you stay safe while digging. Call center representatives can advise you on how to submit requests to learn what utilities may be buried beneath the ground, such as natural gas pipelines, electric power lines and other services.

After you make the call to 811, professional locators mark the approximate locations of underground lines at the requested digging site with flags, paint or both. Markings show the location of underground lines and help prevent undesired consequences such as injury, service disruptions or costly fines and repair costs.

If you suspect utility damage of any kind, leave the area immediately and call 1-800-ENTERGY (1-800-368-3749) or call 911. A gas leak could be occurring if you smell the distinctive natural gas odor, hear a hissing or whistling sound near a gas appliance or see dead vegetation or bubbles near a gas line.

A life changing experience for Cherlyn Hager sparks a unique Entergy Louisiana volunteer event /blog/life-changing-experience-for-cherlyn-hager-sparks-unique-entergy-louisiana-volunteer-event Thu, 21 Mar 2024 23:57:00 +0000 /life-changing-experience-for-cherlyn-hager-sparks-unique-entergy-louisiana-volunteer-event A second chance at life transformed into a collaborative blanket making volunteer event to honor the families of organ donors.

Here’s how one Entergy Shared Services employee started the initiative:

In 2021, after many years of battling kidney disease, Cherlyn Hager, a workplace analyst for Entergy Shared Services received a second chance at life. She was placed on the Louisiana organ transplant list for a kidney. With a huge act of love, bravery and heroism from a close family member, Hager found a match.

“Our transplant doctor said the chances of us being a perfect match was not only rare but astronomical,” said Hager. “Soon after the procedure, we both made a full recovery. My life as a mom and wife has never been better. Words cannot describe how grateful and blessed I am to have another chance at life.”

This life changing experience sparked an interest in Hager, who vowed to serve her community and be a beacon of hope for families awaiting an organ transplant.

“I was so adamant about finding programs and resources that assisted organ donors, their families and organ recipients,” said Hager, “That’s when I found the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA). They had many events celebrating donor families; I just had to serve with them.”

LOPA is a nonprofit organization in Louisiana that serves the community by supporting families through tragic loss, during the donation process and along the grief journey. One way they support families is by providing hero blankets. These blankets are made by organ donor families or volunteers.

Each individual blanket is dedicated to honor donor heroes whose legacies live on through the gift of life.

“When I contacted LOPA last year and told them my story, they were excited to collaborate and execute a hero blanket volunteer event,” said Hager. “The first event was with my facilities team in downtown New Orleans. They were so excited to jump into gear and help create these hero blankets for LOPA to distribute to donor families.”

This year Cherlyn and the Entergy Shared Services team in Hammond hosted another Hero Blanket volunteer event. Employees gathered to create blankets, package them for distribution and wrote personal notes thanking family members for their courageous and generous gifts of life.

Join us in thanking Cherlyn and our Entergy Shared Services team for coming together to honor families in our community who provide an act of quiet heroism that most times go unnoticed.
