May 12-16 marks, but for Entergy employees, it seems like the observance is celebrated daily.

Throughout the company’s service area, a dizzying number of projects are being planned, designed, approved, built and put into service. These projects will improve resiliency, enhance reliability, supply economic growth and meet increased residential demand for Entergy’s 3 million customers.

Interested in how the company is investing in serving customers better, both now and for the future? Below are just a few of the many initiatives active right now.

Entergy Louisianais investing more than $400 million over the next four years to upgrade approximately 730 miles of distribution and transmission lines across the state’s Capital Region. As part of the project, approximately 20,300 poles will be upgraded to withstand winds of up to 150 mph, helping to ensure the continuity of service in the face of increasingly severe weather events.

The initiative will directly benefit the Capital Region’s vital industries, as well as small businesses, schools, hospitals and residential customers that rely on affordable and reliable power. With more than $30 billion in industrial projects currently evaluating investment in the region, enhanced grid reliability is a critical factor in supporting continued economic growth.

Entergy Texasis roughly 70% complete with construction of the Orange County Advanced Power Station. The plant, designed to generate 1,215 megawatts of power, remains on track to power more than 230,000 homes by June 2026.

Bringing this massive project to life requires an impressive inventory of materials:

  • Over 1.3 million feet of electrical cables
  • More than 43,000 feet of underground piping
  • Nearly 2,000 tons of steel
  • Over 22,000 cubic yards of concrete

Entergy Texas expects energy demand across residential, commercial and industrial customer bases to increase over the next few years. This growth in energy consumption requires the Entergy Texas power grid to have an additional 1,600 megawatts of generation capacity by 2028, which is approximately 40% of current generation capacity..

Entergy New Orleanshas announced a $100 million, approved by the New Orleans City Council in October 2024. The plan reflects a commitment to strengthening the grid and creating jobs while driving long-term growth.

The first phase of work, to be completed in 2025-2026, will include 65 individual projects, strengthening 3,096 structures and upgrading 63 electric line miles.

Company employees are already working closely with local partners to help transform the city’s economic landscape in other positive ways:

  • The River District Neighborhood Initiative will feature a mixed-use neighborhood with sustainable designs, green spaces, and advanced infrastructure. This project is expected to generate over $1 billion in economic activity and $43 million in annual tax revenue.
  • Five O’ Four Golf, a $40 million golf-entertainment facility, will include a driving range, dining options, and other amenities, bringing jobs, tourism, and entertainment to the region.
  • ,the first site in the city to be classified as a “Certified Site” under the Louisiana Economic Development’s Certified Sites Program, will benefit residents by creating jobs, improving infrastructure, and enhancing logistics and transportation services.

Entergy Arkansascontinues its plans to invest millions of dollars into grid upgrades and one example is the recently completed significant reliability upgrades in the Harrisburg community aimed at modernizing aging infrastructure, increasing resilience and reducing the risk of power interruptions. The year-long project, which includes more than two miles of new distribution lines and enhancing substation equipment, is expected to bring improved stability to the area, providing farmers and residents with the reliable power needed to operate essential irrigation systems during the hot summer months.

These upgrades represent a proactive investment in the community’s future, helping farmers, residents and local businesses thrive with expanded electrical stability. In total for this project, Entergy Arkansas has invested more than $12 million in new upgrades and has rebuilt more than a mile of existing distribution lines allowing the company to support increased load demands and provide consistent power delivery, even during high-demand periods.

ճEntergy NuclearRiver Bend Station in St. Francisville, La., has recently, transitioning to a nationally approved system that continues to alert local broadcast and news outlets about severe weather, while putting information directly in the hands of residents.

Similar to how people now get storm warnings through their electronic and mobile devices, the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System is now set to give local residents more information in a timelier manner should an emergency occur.

IPAWS works by sending local emergency messages to the public to customer’s mobile phones using wireless emergency alerts, to radio and television via the Emergency Alert System and also on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s, or NOAA, weather radio. The Federal Emergency Management Agency developed IPAWS over a decade ago is currently being used by major nuclear plants across the nation.

These investments, and many more like them, are part of an aggressive plan to invest $37 billion in the grid through 2028. For details, check out Entergy’s most recent performance report.

Entergy Louisiana working to provide affordable streetlighting service /blog/entergy-louisiana-working-provide-affordable-streetlighting-service Thu, 07 Mar 2024 06:47:00 +0000 /entergy-louisiana-working-provide-affordable-streetlighting-service At Entergy Louisiana, we’re committed to providing safe, reliable and efficient lighting solutions to our communities. We work closely with customers who desire additional illumination to add fixtures and/or proactively upgrade existing streetlighting infrastructure with more modern technology, including the incorporation of LED fixtures.

These fixtures offer numerous benefits, including brighter lighting, improved energy efficiency and a longer lifespan. And with so much focus on this new technology in the lighting industry, certain older-style bulbs and fixtures are no longer being manufactured, making it challenging to replace damaged or broken lights with the same equipment in all scenarios.

When an older technology bulb or fixture cannot be replaced in kind, we’ll provide our customers with an available LED lighting replacement. These new LED fixtures are currently more expensive than traditional, older technology fixtures, and we understand that some customers may have concerns regarding potential bill increases associated with these upgrades. As a precautionary measure and at the request of our regulator, the Louisiana Public Service Commission, we have recently sent out letters to inform customers of potential impacts. It’s important to note that lighting typically makes up a very small component of a customer’s bill, and while the installation of an LED fixture may result in some adjustment to lighting costs, most customers who receive an upgraded fixture will not see a significant change on their utility bill.

We recognize that streetlight and private area light ownership and rates can vary based on location and existing infrastructure. To mitigate any potential increases in utility bills, we are actively working to minimize customer costs associated with the transition to LED technology. We have submitted a proposal to the Louisiana Public Service Commission aimed at reducing or eliminating the impact on customer bills, and this proposal is currently pending approval.

For residential customers who are paying Entergy Louisiana directly for streetlighting services, the charges are listed as an individual line item on monthly bills and would not be adjusted unless all neighborhood streetlights are upgraded. Additionally, we have provided an interactive online map at entergy.com/streetlightrepair for reporting any outages or issues with streetlights.

We appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding as we strive to ensure the safety and security of our communities while maintaining affordable services.

Entergy to upgrade electric system in rural areas west and south of Baton Rouge /news/entergy-upgrade-electric-system-in-rural-areas-west-south-baton-rouge Tue, 19 Dec 2023 06:00:00 +0000 /blog-post/entergy-upgrade-electric-system-in-rural-areas-west-south-baton-rouge/ Reliability work to benefit thousands of Entergy and Pointe Coupee Electric customers

BATON ROUGE, La. – Entergy Louisiana crews and contractors will be performing significant reliability work on its electric system over the next six months in rural areas west and south of Baton Rouge. The work, which will take place in or near Livonia, Grosse Tete, Plaquemine and Bayou Pigeon, aims to improve service for around 5,400 Entergy and Pointe Coupee Electric residential and business customers.

PC Electric customers in these areas will benefit from the reliability work Entergy Louisiana is performing because the PC Electric’s wholesale power provider receives power from Entergy’s power grid. The local electric system is an interconnected system of wires, poles and meter points, among other equipment. ¬†

The reliability work began in early November and is expected to be completed in the spring of next year. The overall project includes upgrades on four distribution-level power lines:

  • Livonia – New utility poles and crossarms, equipment that keeps power lines in the air, will be installed. Most of the work will be performed along Highway 90, LA 41 and LA 77.
  • Grosse Tete – Along with miscellaneous improvements, more than 70 new utility poles will be installed and substation equipment will be upgraded. Most of the work will be performed near Highway 77 and Sydney Road.
  • Plaquemine – Along with trimming trees and limbs away from power lines to mitigate the potential for vegetation-related outages, around eight new utility poles and six crossarms will be installed. Most of the work will be performed along Highway 75.
  • Bayou Pigeon – A self-healing network, which consists of smart devices and automation being built into the electric system to make it more resilient, will be constructed. This includes the installation of three reclosers as well as nine new utility poles with five of them being 60-foot composite poles. Most of the work will be performed along Highway 69 and Highway 404 near White Castle.

Entergy Louisiana’s dedicated operations team, including engineers and designers, combed through data, performed field inspections and collaborated with PC Electric team members to determine where and how upgrades should be made. The multi-faceted initiative the company is taking will include everything from tree trimming to the installation of new poles and the incorporation of automation to harden the electric system and make it more resilient.

“We’re always working to strengthen the electric system in communities we serve across Louisiana and that includes in rural areas,” said Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana president and CEO. “We’re looking forward to putting new poles in the ground and improving the system to provide not only our customers, but also customers of our neighboring utility, Pointe Coupee Electric, with reliable service.” ¬†¬†

“We thank Entergy for joining forces with Pointe Coupee Electric to enhance the local electric system,” said Myron Lambert, Pointe Coupee Electric general manager. “Through this collaboration, we’re taking steps to create a more resilient and reliable system and deliver improved service to our valued customers.”

To learn more about Entergy’s approach to reliability and some of latest projects the company is undertaking, visit entergy.com/reliability/.
