The impact of Hurricane Beryl was severe, with heavy rain, peak wind gusts up to 97 miles per hour, and even a tornado hitting the Entergy Texas service area, resulting in widespread debris and damage to our electrical system – mainly driven by fallen trees and vegetation. Thanks to the efforts of more than 2,500 restoration workers, we were able to make repairs and restore power to nearly all impacted customers just one week after Hurricane Beryl’s landfall. This included repairing more than the distance between Conroe and Austin in downed power lines.

In addition to our restoration efforts, we also donated for storm relief and actively promoted cooling centers across our service area to further support our communities during this challenging time.

THE WOODLANDS, Texas РEntergy Texas has safely restored power to nearly all customers affected by Hurricane Beryl. Hundreds of crews remain in the field to make repairs and turn the lights back on for communities hit hardest by the storm. All customers who can safely take power are expected to be restored by tonight.

Beryl, which barreled into the Gulf Coast area as a Category 1 hurricane, knocked out power to approximately 252,460 Entergy Texas customers on July 8. The storm brought heavy rain, max winds of up to 97 mph, and a tornado to the Entergy Texas service area. Due to high winds and ground saturation during the tropical event, downed trees and other vegetation caused significant damage to 806 poles, 400 transformers, 979 crossarms and left behind approximately 150 miles of downed wire. Whether in the field or behind the scenes, a workforce of more than 2,400 helped safely turn the lights back on for Southeast Texas communities. 

Outside of restoration efforts, Entergy Texas also supported communities by for Beryl relief. Red Cross volunteers have been working very closely with the entire response community – government agencies, other non-profit groups, faith-based organizations, area businesses and others – to coordinate emergency relief efforts and get help to people as quickly as possible.

The majority of Entergy Texas customers have been restored after hurricane-force winds and heavy rain from Hurricane Beryl caused widespread outages across Southeast Texas. As of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, approximately 248,000 of the 252,460 customers impacted have been restored. All customers who can safely take power are expected to be restored before the end of day today.��

Customers still experiencing an outage are encouraged to safely check for damage to the electrical equipment attached to their home or business. Entergy Texas cannot restore power to a location with a damaged meter base, conduit or weather head (the metal pipe extending upward from the structure with electrical cables inside). These items must be repaired by a qualified electrician before workers can start the restoration process.��Entergy’s Storm Center provides of the��electrical equipment��the company��will repair, and the equipment customers are responsible for repairing.

Entergy Texas restoration crews continue to make progress clearing debris and making repairs in the hardest hit areas following Hurricane Beryl. As of 6 p.m. Monday, approximately 244,700 of the 252,460 customers have been restored, bringing the company’s total restoration percentage to more than 96%.

All Entergy Texas customers in the Huntsville area are now restored, and the company expects to fully restore power to customers in The Woodlands and Conroe areas tonight. Due to a significant amount of downed vegetation, crews continue to face access issues in New Caney and Cleveland areas. Estimated restoration times for customers in��these areas��have been adjusted to 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Entergy Texas has successfully restored power to more than 95% of customers impacted by Hurricane Beryl. As of 11��a.m. Monday, approximately 240,500 of the 252,460 customers impacted by the storm have been restored.��The remaining outages are in the Woodlands, Conroe, New Caney and Cleveland areas, which were the hardest hit areas due to the path of Hurricane Beryl.

Most customers are expected to be restored by the end of day Monday, but some customers in the Cleveland and New Caney areas may not be restored until Tuesday, July 16, due to access issues and extensive damage from downed vegetation.��If estimated restoration times change, Entergy Texas will send a direct message to all impacted customers that includes information about when they can expect to receive power and ways to stay informed.��

Once vegetation is cleared and crews are ready to repair or rebuild parts of the distribution system, the can also create certain challenges. Poles can be located:

• In a backyard where our large bucket trucks can’t access. Here, crews still must clean up the area, manually pull the old pole out and use shovels to clean out the existing hole or hand dig a new hole. Then, crews manually install the new pole using specialized equipment.
• In swampy or wet areas. In this case, special marsh or high-water equipment must be used to replace a pole.
• In wooded or off-road areas. In these situations, access can be hampered by fallen trees or other debris, or having to cross waterways, bayous or creeks. This also takes additional effort, time and specialized equipment, as well as a vegetation-removal team member to clear a path before we can send in line crews to replace a pole.

The storm disrupted electrical service for approximately 263,690 Entergy customers. At 8:30 a.m., our restoration workers have restored approximately 96% of the electrical power outages caused by Hurricane Beryl.��Our workforce is continuing to work safely to restore your power as quickly as possible.��

We’ve made tremendous progress restoring service to our customers. But we know that if you are still without, you want your power restored as quickly as possible.��Most of the remaining outages are in heavily damaged areas requiring more extensive repairs.

Even though we have an army of workers focused on repairs, the pace of restoration will likely be less rapid from this point forward as crews address these hard-hit areas where damage to our equipment is the greatest.��In some of the hardest-hit areas impacted by Hurricane Beryl, our teams are encountering extensive damage that will require rebuilding the system, as opposed to just a restoration.

As restoration is completed in portions of Entergy’s territory affected by Hurricane Beryl, we can add those crews to those already working the restoration in the harder-hit areas. We are not backing down or slowing our momentum. Crews will work until the last light is on.

Hurricane Beryl impacted more than 40 transmission lines in the Entergy Texas system. Two of those transmission lines remain out of service, which are not currently impacting customer outages.

Our power restoration process

Occasionally we’ll restore power to an area only to find another issue. This may require us to turn the power off again in order to complete additional repairs. We will also make initial repairs in some areas in order to get the power flowing to as many customers as possible. We then have to go back, take customers out of service, and complete more long-term repairs.��.

We’ve reached a point in recovering from Hurricane Beryl that can be very frustrating for you. The storm has passed, yet power outages remain as we continue our restoration. We understand how difficult it is to wait for power so you can get your lives back to normal.

It is frustrating to be without power for this long, but the storm caused extensive damage to our system that we must repair.

It can be frustrating for you if you see trucks move away from an area before power is restored. Our work, however, has to take place in a certain order, determined by a restoration plan that takes into account how electricity flows to your neighborhood and prioritizes critical customers like hospitals. Trucks and workers will return to your area as soon as possible to complete the restoration work.
