Working alongside community action partners, we engaged lawmakers in discussions to continue and to increase funding for the Low-Income Home ϳԹ Assistance Program, or LIHEAP. This program helps vulnerable households maintain essential energy services, particularly during extreme weather conditions.

Highlighting customer impact

During LIHEAP Action Day, we conducted 25 meetings with congressional representatives and staff from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, highlighting the direct impact of LIHEAP funding on customers. Our community action partners provided customer testimonials underscoring the critical need for the program and its benefit to low-income households.

“Our commitment goes beyond advocacy. We are taking action to ensure our customers receive the support they need,” said Sandra Diggs-Miller, Entergy’s vice president of consumer and advocacy programs. “Our commitment is reflected not only in our presence on Capitol Hill, but also in our ongoing efforts to provide direct assistance to our customers who need it the most.”

Legislators expressed strong bipartisan support for the LIHEAP program and acknowledged its vital role in assisting low-income families. Many also recognized that current funding allocations do not fully meet the demand, leaving many households at risk.

Building on advocacy efforts

To build on the progress made during LIHEAP Day, we will continue to engage with policymakers regarding the program’s impact, while strengthening partnerships with advocacy groups and stakeholders to ensure a unified voice in future funding efforts.

Access to affordable energy is a critical issue for millions of households. Entergy is committed to working with federal and local leaders to support policies that provide reliable assistance to customers in need. By continuing to advocate for LIHEAP funding, Entergy reinforces our commitment to ensuring energy security for the most vulnerable communities.

Entergy Louisiana volunteers pack more than 200,000 meals in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day /blog/entergy-louisiana-volunteers-pack-more-than-200000-meals-in-honor-of-martin-luther-king-jr-day Wed, 12 Feb 2025 22:23:10 +0000 /?p=13513 In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Entergy Louisiana employee volunteers gathered at sites across the state to pack meals for local food banks. Despite freezing temperatures and snow days that led to food packing site reschedules, Entergy volunteers showed up geared and ready.

At Entergy, our commitment goes well beyond providing reliable power – we strive to make a meaningful impact in the communities we serve. For more than two decades, Entergy has empowered employees to make a meaningful impact in the fight against hunger through volunteerism. That’s why our employees teamed up with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, and Healthy Blue, Louisiana Blue to help fight food insecurity in Louisiana. Together, volunteers packed more than 200,000 meals for families in need.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 47 million people in the United States face hunger, including one in five children. This collective effort not only enabled us to meet our goal of supporting our customers, neighbors, and families in need but also played a crucial role in addressing hunger in our communities.

“Martin Luther King Jr. Day is more than about what we can do as a company to help others, but also about using our resources to join hands with community partners to assist those In critical need,” said Phillip May, president and CEO of Entergy Louisiana. “With more than a century of service and a commitment to building a more vibrant Louisiana, Entergy Louisiana remains committed to giving back through volunteerism, advocacy, financial support and partnerships that help strengthen the communities we serve.”

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service supports Entergy’s mission to create sustainable value through volunteerism and philanthropy, and we observe King’s legacy by continuing to give back to the communities we serve. This day serves as a reminder to put his teachings into action by addressing social problems, advancing equality and empowering others. We encourage our employees to continue to work together to support communities and drive meaningful change.

Entergy Louisiana to power Meta’s data center in Richland Parish /news/entergy-louisiana-to-power-metas-data-center-in-richland-parish Fri, 06 Dec 2024 08:25:00 +0000 /blog-post/entergy-louisiana-to-power-metas-data-center-in-richland-parish/ Investment in new infrastructure will transform Northeast Louisiana economy for generations

RICHLAND PARISH, La. – Entergy Louisiana is pleased to announce plans to invest in modern, efficient generation facilities and robust transmission infrastructure to support the region and Meta’s data center representing a $10 billion in investment in Richland Parish. Once completed, it will be Meta’s largest data center at more than 4-million square feet.

This transformative project promises to revitalize Northeast Louisiana’s economy, creating jobs, bolstering infrastructure and driving significant economic growth in the region, based on this project and others that may follow.

“Today marks a turning point for Northeast Louisiana,” said Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana president and CEO. “This is more than just an investment in infrastructure; it’s an investment in the people, businesses and communities of our state. Entergy Louisiana is proud to partner with Meta to bring this vision to life and support a project that will help shape the region’s future for decades to come.”

Just as Entergy’s founder, Harvey Couch, pioneered new power solutions nearly a century ago, Entergy Louisiana is building on its legacy of innovation and commitment to community growth. By constructing cutting-edge electric infrastructure, Entergy is laying the foundation for economic success in a region that has faced challenges such as population decline and outward migration.

Strategic site selection

Meta’s data center will be built on what is referred to as the Franklin Farm mega site, a more than 1,400-acre certified site, in Richland Parish, Louisiana, that boasts proximity to existing utility infrastructure and robust transportation routes. Entergy Louisiana  through its Ի platforms, emphasizing its potential for large-scale developments.

“We’re not going to just be powering a facility, we’re going to be empowering a community,” May added. “From job creation to infrastructure improvements, this partnership with Meta demonstrates what’s possible when innovative companies and communities come together to build a brighter future.

“Our team is proud to have played a significant role in assisting the State of Louisiana in recruiting this project to our state.”

Economic impact

. Louisiana will benefit far more than just the investment made Meta. Entergy Louisiana’s investment will also provide jobs to bolster our communities.

During construction, Entergy Louisiana projects will provide significant economic benefits and create:

  • 1,500 to 1,800 construction jobs for the new advanced generation units being constructed
  • 3,500 to 5,000 construction jobs for substation and transmission investment
  • 44 permanent jobs

Richland Parish, known for its rich agricultural history and community traditions, stands to benefit significantly from this development.

Infrastructure to power progress

To support the Richland Parish Data Center, as well as broader economic development in the state and our growing customer base, Entergy Louisiana will:

  • Build three combined-cycle combustion turbines with a combined capacity of 2,260 megawatts, two of which will be in Richland Parish
  • Construct two Entergy-owned substations and six customer-owned substations
  • Install nearly 100 miles of 500kV transmission lines and eight new 230kV transmission lines
  • Upgrade existing infrastructure, including a substation near Sterlington

Pending regulatory approval, the new generators are expected to come online between 2028 and 2029.

Shared costs and community benefits

Revenue from Meta will significantly offset the costs associated to make service available to the company’s data center and the region. Moreover, Meta will also share in the future cost of providing service like other customers including Formula Rate Plan costs, securitized storm costs and resiliency costs – this is expected to reduce costs that existing customers would otherwise pay by more than $300 million. Additionally, Meta has committed to contributing to Entergy’s The Power to Care program, matching $1 million in shareholder contributions to assist older adults and individuals with disabilities in paying utility bills.

Commitment to sustainability

Both Meta and Entergy Louisiana are committed to sustainability. The new generators will initially support the ability to utilize 30% hydrogen co-firing and, through future upgrades, the ability to transition to 100% hydrogen and incorporate carbon capture and sequestration technology.

Meta has also committed to helping fund CCS technology at an Entergy power plant in Lake Charles as well as 1,500 megawatts of new solar and storage resources, complementing Entergy Louisiana’s .

The companies have also committed to exploring nuclear energy as a future power supply option alongside renewable sources like solar and wind. This effort includes researching conventional nuclear technologies, supporting small modular reactors and potential upgrades to enhance the output of existing nuclear plants in Southeast Louisiana.

“It’s truly an honor to work alongside some incredible people and serve our communities,”  Dumas said. “I learn something new every day, and I enjoy having the opportunity to contribute to projects that make a real difference in the places we call home.”

Dumas has worked on some significant projects in the last six months, including a proposal to bring a solar facility to St. James Parish, the company’s Beat the Heat efforts that saw the distribution of fans to older adults, a student-development program with St. James Parish School Board called the Salute 1st Training Academy and career fairs at River Parish-area schools.

Daylight saving time will end on Sunday, Nov. 3 /blog/daylight-saving-time-will-end-on-sunday-nov-3 Thu, 31 Oct 2024 01:01:00 +0000 /daylight-saving-time-will-end-on-sunday-nov-3 As fall begins, many of us enjoy the chilly mornings and a pumpkin spice latte. As much as we look forward to the seasonal changes, there is one hallmark of fall that sparks as much competition as the most storied football rivalries: daylight saving time. Some people love daylight saving time. Others loathe it and consider moving to Arizona or Hawaii to avoid it.

Wherever you fall on the ‘love it or loathe it’ spectrum, changing the clocks can be disruptive. This year, daylight saving time will end on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 2 a.m., so before you go to bed on Saturday night, set your clocks back one hour.

While some may like the ‘fall back’ part of the time change because it provides an extra hour sleep on that night, the changes can disturb circadian rhythms and sleep.

The offers some to help ease the transition:

  • It may take one week for the body to adjust.
    • Reduce demanding physical and mental tasks as much as possible to allow time to adjust.
  • Be vigilant while driving, at work and at home.
    • You and others around you may be drowsy and less alert than usual, increasing the risks for making an error that can cause a vehicle crash or other accident.
  • Those with existing heart disease may be at risk for a heart attack.
  • Adjust to the time change gradually.
    • About three days before the time changes, begin gradually moving the timing of wakening and bedtime, meals, exercise and exposure to light to 15-20 minutes later than your current times for those activities.
    • About one hour after awakening, keep the lights dim and avoid electronic lit screens on computers, tablets, etc.
    • Get enough sleep and be well rested for several days for the time change goes into effect.

Some may have an easier time adjusting to the change than others. Your natural tendencies as either a morning person or an evening person, as well as how much sleep you get on a regular basis, can impact how disruptive the time change will be for you.

Even though we may not like changing our clocks twice a year, it provides a convenient reminder to check your home safety list. Review your and have your furnace serviced by a certified electrician to make sure it is operating safely and efficiently.

Before you set your clock back, remember to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors and you’ll rest even easier during that extra hour of sleep!

During Hurricane Francine, our plants underscore the resiliency and strength of nuclear power /stormcenter/during-hurricane-francine-our-plants-underscore-resiliency-strength-nuclear-power-123696273 Fri, 13 Sep 2024 04:22:00 +0000 /during-hurricane-francine-our-plants-underscore-resiliency-strength-nuclear-power-123696273 Entergy’s Waterford 3 Nuclear Generating Station and River Bend Station in Louisiana and Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Mississippi operated at full power during Hurricane Francine, which once again shows the resiliency and strength of nuclear power.

I want to praise our nuclear professionals – and those across our company — who focused on in-depth preparation, strong teamwork and unparalleled collaboration, with the safety of our folks and our communities being at the core of every decision related to the storm. While we are still doing safety walkdowns, damage assessments and checking on our team members, our facilities in Louisiana and Mississippi performed exceptionally well.

While our plants stayed on the grid during the event, producing power for our customers, our people also shined. Their nuclear professionalism is impressive and appreciated, but not surprising. While power outages remain across southeast Louisiana and Mississippi, Entergy’s utility crews continue to assess damages and work to restore power as safely and quickly as possible.

JACKSON, Miss. – Entergy Nuclear, along with Entergy’s operating companies in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, is closely monitoring the progress of Tropical Storm Francine in the Gulf of Mexico. As of Monday morning, Sept. 9, the forecast from the National Hurricane Center calls for a Category 1 hurricane landfall in Louisiana on Wednesday evening.

Although the storm is not anticipated to impact our nuclear stations, we’ve entered severe weather procedures that ensure our readiness at Waterford 3 and River Bend Stations in Louisiana and Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Mississippi. Those procedures include walk-downs, securing of equipment and contingency staffing plans.

Nuclear power plants maintain the highest standard for operational safety, security, cybersecurity and emergency preparedness. The industry’s comprehensive safety procedures and stringent federal regulations keep our plants and neighboring communities safe. In addition, nuclear plants are designed to exceed requirements to withstand any historical natural disaster in their region, and Entergy’s plants have a long history of safety and security during challenging times.

With just a few days remaining before the system is expected to impact the coast, Entergy urges our communities and employees to remain weather aware. For up-to-date information, visit the  and follow Entergy Nuclear on .
