Entergy Louisiana breaks ground on key substation to power data center in Richland Parish

Investment in new infrastructure will transform Louisiana economy for generations

June 27, 2025 / in News Release / by Entergy Louisiana Team

RAYVILLE, La. – Entergy Louisiana has officially broken ground on the Smalling Substation, a major piece of grid infrastructure that will connect Meta’s newest and largest data center, currently under construction in Richland Parish.

The substation, which will be funded by Meta in its entirety, will play a central role in delivering electricity to the $10 billion facility, which spans more than 4-million square feet and represents one of the largest private investments in Louisiana history. The Smalling Substation will cover about 55 acres and connect to high-voltage power lines that bring energy from across the region and deliver it to the Meta site.

“Today is another tremendous milestone for Louisiana,” said Phillip May, president and CEO of Entergy Louisiana. “This is more than just an investment in infrastructure, it’s an investment in the people, businesses and communities of our state. Entergy Louisiana is proud to partner with Meta to bring this vision to life and support a project that will help shape the region’s future for decades to come.”

At the peak of construction, the entire project is expected to employ around 6,000 workers. The scale of the project is expected to bring a major boost to the local economy and lay the groundwork for future development.
The project is just one part of Entergy Louisiana’s larger effort to modernize its electric system to enhance resiliency and attract more major economic development opportunities, like Meta, for the benefit of all customers across the region.
Entergy’s partnership with Meta is expected to not only power cutting-edge technology, but also drive long-term economic growth, create jobs and lower costs for customers throughout the state.

We’re from Louisiana and for Louisiana /blog/were-from-louisiana-and-for-louisiana Fri, 23 May 2025 21:49:43 +0000 /?p=18080 This is our home, too, and most of us at Entergy are customers just like you. We know it’s important to you that we deliver reliable power at an affordable price. In fact, we take this responsibility to heart and it’s more important than ever that our teams work diligently every day to help keep your bills as low as possible.

Your energy costs at the lowest possible price: 33% below the national average

Whether you’re a grocery store owner, a school administrator, managing your household’s expenses, or overseeing a hospital or manufacturing plant, we understand that every dollar in your budget matters. In the last decade, we have invested billions to strengthen the grid and modernize our generation portfolio.  As a result, Entergy has one of the cleanest and most efficient generating fleets that has allowed us to keep rate increased to a minimum – generally at or below the rate of inflation.  That’s why we’re proud to say last year our rates were ~33% below the national average and consistently for the last 15 years among the lowest in the state.

8 cost-saving actions we’re taking today to stay below the national average

  1. Building a storm-strong grid: By reinforcing our grid ahead of severe weather, Louisiana customers will save an estimated $1.2 billion in avoided storm costs. A more resilient grid also means less and shorter outages when it comes to weather. Phase 1 of this effort includes 2,100 projects across our state and is already underway.
  2. Modernizing our generation fleet: Modern technologies equal better efficiency, and our new, modern power generation sources help us and our customers meet clean energy goals, but also offer us the flexibility to lessen the impact on your bills should one fuel source spikes in price.
  3. Building an all of the above generation mix. Using a diverse range of power sources makes our system more reliable, efficient and cost effective for customers.
  4. Managing fuel costs: We’re in a constant state of trying to procure fuel at the lowest price available. Fuel costs are never marked up, so customers pay exactly what we pay. Also, having a variety of power sources helps shield customers from fuel price fluctuations and enhances grid reliability.
  5. Recruiting new power partners: By bringing new, large customers into our service area we not only help create new jobs and dollars for the state but also it creates a framework that lessens the rate impact for our residential customers across Louisiana.
  6. Putting money back in your pockets: During the 2024 tax season, Entergy helped low-income customers across our service area receive $55 million in federal tax refunds. We help customers save additional dollars through other federal funding resources including Ի, and we offer The Power to Care – our long-held bill assistance program for qualifying customers.
  7. Lessening fees: Last year, the Louisiana Public Service Commission approved a reduction of late fees, elimination of connection and reconnection fees, and the expansion of eligibility for low-income senior bill discounts – for a three-year span.
  8. Offering bill support: Our Bill Toolkit provides customers resources and available assistance options to help them more easily manage their energy bill. Whether you have questions about your bill, need more time to pay or are looking for assistance, our one-stop shop connects you to available programs and services.

Entergy is invested in you in more ways than one. Our 5,100 employees across Louisiana are your neighbors, your friends, your family. This is the place we happily call home just like you. As every day expenses continue to become more and more costly, as inflation rises, we remain focused on minimizing the impact of our customers’ bills.

Entergy grid renewal projects full steam ahead during National Infrastructure Week /blog/entergy-grid-renewal-projects-full-steam-ahead-during-national-infrastructure-week Mon, 12 May 2025 21:31:08 +0000 /?p=13345 Company plans to invest $37 billion in the electric grid through 2028

May 12-16 marks , but for Entergy employees, it seems like the observance is celebrated daily.

Throughout the company’s service area, a dizzying number of projects are being planned, designed, approved, built and put into service. These projects will improve resiliency, enhance reliability, supply economic growth and meet increased residential demand for Entergy’s 3 million customers.

Interested in how the company is investing in serving customers better, both now and for the future? Below are just a few of the many initiatives active right now.

Entergy Louisiana is investing more than $400 million over the next four years to upgrade approximately 730 miles of distribution and transmission lines across the state’s Capital Region. As part of the project, approximately 20,300 poles will be upgraded to withstand winds of up to 150 mph, helping to ensure the continuity of service in the face of increasingly severe weather events.

The initiative will directly benefit the Capital Region’s vital industries, as well as small businesses, schools, hospitals and residential customers that rely on affordable and reliable power. With more than $30 billion in industrial projects currently evaluating investment in the region, enhanced grid reliability is a critical factor in supporting continued economic growth.

Entergy Texas is roughly 70% complete with construction of the Orange County Advanced Power Station. The plant, designed to generate 1,215 megawatts of power, remains on track to power more than 230,000 homes by June 2026.

Bringing this massive project to life requires an impressive inventory of materials:

  • Over 1.3 million feet of electrical cables
  • More than 43,000 feet of underground piping
  • Nearly 2,000 tons of steel
  • Over 22,000 cubic yards of concrete

Entergy Texas expects energy demand across residential, commercial and industrial customer bases to increase over the next few years. This growth in energy consumption requires the Entergy Texas power grid to have an additional 1,600 megawatts of generation capacity by 2028, which is approximately 40% of current generation capacity. .

Entergy New Orleans has announced a $100 million , approved by the New Orleans City Council in October 2024. The plan reflects a commitment to strengthening the grid and creating jobs while driving long-term growth.

The first phase of work, to be completed in 2025-2026, will include 65 individual projects, strengthening 3,096 structures and upgrading 63 electric line miles.

Company employees are already working closely with local partners to help transform the city’s economic landscape in other positive ways:

  • The River District Neighborhood Initiative will feature a mixed-use neighborhood with sustainable designs, green spaces, and advanced infrastructure. This project is expected to generate over $1 billion in economic activity and $43 million in annual tax revenue.
  • Five O’ Four Golf, a $40 million golf-entertainment facility, will include a driving range, dining options, and other amenities, bringing jobs, tourism, and entertainment to the region.
  • , the first site in the city to be classified as a “Certified Site” under the Louisiana Economic Development’s Certified Sites Program, will benefit residents by creating jobs, improving infrastructure, and enhancing logistics and transportation services.

Entergy Arkansas continues its plans to invest millions of dollars into grid upgrades and one example is the recently completed significant reliability upgrades in the Harrisburg community aimed at modernizing aging infrastructure, increasing resilience and reducing the risk of power interruptions. The year-long project, which includes more than two miles of new distribution lines and enhancing substation equipment, is expected to bring improved stability to the area, providing farmers and residents with the reliable power needed to operate essential irrigation systems during the hot summer months.

These upgrades represent a proactive investment in the community’s future, helping farmers, residents and local businesses thrive with expanded electrical stability. In total for this project, Entergy Arkansas has invested more than $12 million in new upgrades and has rebuilt more than a mile of existing distribution lines allowing the company to support increased load demands and provide consistent power delivery, even during high-demand periods.

Entergy Mississippi, construction is underway at the Delta Blues Advanced Power Station in Greenville. By replacing end-of-life gas generation with more clean and efficient generation, the company is ensuring customers continue to have modern, reliable energy well into the future.

Delta Blues Advanced Power Station will be a 754-megawatt facility capable of powering 385,000 homes across Entergy Mississippi’s 45-county service area.

The $1.2 billion investment represents a significant economic impact for the Mississippi Delta, including more than 300 construction jobs in the area over the next several years and additional tax revenue for Washington County. Entergy will employ about 21 full-time personnel to operate the plant when it comes online. When fully operational, the plant will provide the state a newer, cleaner and more attractive power source to highlight when recruiting new industry and jobs to Mississippi.

ճEntergy Nuclear River Bend Station in St. Francisville, La., has recently , transitioning to a nationally approved system that continues to alert local broadcast and news outlets about severe weather, while putting information directly in the hands of residents.

Similar to how people now get storm warnings through their electronic and mobile devices, the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System is now set to give local residents more information in a timelier manner should an emergency occur.

IPAWS works by sending local emergency messages to the public to customer’s mobile phones using wireless emergency alerts, to radio and television via the Emergency Alert System and also on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s, or NOAA, weather radio. The Federal Emergency Management Agency developed IPAWS over a decade ago is currently being used by major nuclear plants across the nation.

These investments, and many more like them, are part of an aggressive plan to invest $37 billion in the grid through 2028. For details, check out Entergy’s most recent performance report.

Entergy Louisiana to power $4B, world’s largest low-carbon ammonia facility in Ascension /news/entergy-louisiana-to-power-4b-worlds-largest-low-carbon-ammonia-facility-in-ascension Wed, 09 Apr 2025 04:01:00 +0000 /blog-post/entergy-louisiana-to-power-4b-worlds-largest-low-carbon-ammonia-facility-in-ascension/ DONALDSONVILLE, La. – CF Industries Holdings, Inc., the world’s largest producer of ammonia and its partners have announced an approximately $4 billion final investment decision to establish a low-carbon ammonia facility. Upon completion, this new facility on the West Bank of Ascension Parish will be the largest facility of its kind in the world.

The investment is a joint venture with JERA Co., Inc., Japan’s largest energy company, and Mitsui & Co., Inc., a leading global investment company. The project is expected to create 103 direct new permanent jobs with an average salary of $110,000. Louisiana Economic Development (LED) estimates the project will result in 311 indirect new jobs, for a total of 414 potential new jobs in the Capital Region.

“This project demonstrates that Louisiana is continuing to lead the world in innovative energy and manufacturing processes, and I am proud that we are creating even more new, high-paying jobs that will ensure Louisianans will not have to leave the state looking for work,” Governor Jeff Landry said. “This project moves us even closer to announcing $50 billion in projects since I took office by the end of this summer, continuing a historic run of investments that are changing the narrative about Louisiana as an outstanding place to do business.”

The facility is expected to export approximately 1.4 million metric tons of low-carbon ammonia annually to international markets, playing a significant role in the global energy market. The facility will utilize cutting-edge carbon reduction and carbon capture and sequestration technology, with carbon sequestered by 1PointFive, a subsidiary of Occidental.

“CF Industries and our partners are proud to bring the world’s most advanced low-carbon ammonia production facility to Louisiana and the West Bank of Ascension Parish,” said CF Industries Holdings, Inc. President and CEO Tony Will. “Our project will be uniquely advantaged to meet global customer demand for low-carbon ammonia thanks to Louisiana’s skilled workforce, strong business environment, ample natural resources, and access to carbon capture and sequestration. We appreciate the support from Governor Landry and his team, as well as from Ascension Parish and local leaders, that enabled this industry-leading project to become a reality.”

For more than 50 years, CF Industries has invested in Louisiana. The company’s existing Donaldsonville Complex on 1,400 acres on Highway 3089 is currently the world’s  ammonia and nitrogen production facility and has more than 500 employees.

The $4 billion project is the final investment decision for CF Industries’ 2022  that it was evaluating the site in Ascension Parish for the world-scale facility.

“Louisiana is experiencing an unprecedented wave of momentum that is fostering innovation, creating opportunities and putting our state on the global stage,” said LED Secretary Susan B. Bourgeois. “When forward-thinking manufacturing leaders like CF Industries make investments in new energy technology, the world sits up and takes notice. We thank CF Industries for choosing to expand its footprint in Louisiana, and we look forward to many more years of partnership ahead that will drive industry advancements and impact.”

The new production facility will be located at the RiverPlex MegaPark on the West Bank in Ascension Parish, the same industrial park where  will establish its nearly $6 billion clean steel manufacturing facility.

“Entergy Louisiana is proud to power this transformative project, bringing one of the world’s first low-carbon ammonia production facilities to life in Louisiana,” said Entergy Louisiana President and CEO Phillip May. “Our collaboration underscores the critical role strong partnerships play in advancing global energy technology while creating meaningful economic opportunities here at home. Together, we’re not only fueling innovation, we’re building a more sustainable future for our communities and our customers.”

“CF Industries has been an incredible community ally and their continued investment in Ascension is a testament to their commitment to our shared future,” said Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment.

To win the project, LED offered CF Industries a competitive incentives package that includes the comprehensive workforce development solutions of LED FastStart and a $6 million performance-based grant for project development and infrastructure expenditures. The company is also participating in the state’s Industrial Tax Exemption Program and is expected to utilize the Quality Jobs program.

“This is the kind of win we work toward every day — bringing meaningful, lasting opportunities to the areas that need them most,” said Ascension Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Kate MacArthur. “It’s a sign that our local economy is on the rise and that clean energy innovation is happening right here in our backyard.”

“This project’s progression from feasibility to full realization is a significant win for our region,” said Baton Rouge Area Chamber President and CEO Lori Melancon. “We are committed to supporting CF Industries’ growth in the Baton Rouge area and anticipate significant economic benefits from the continued development of the RiverPlex MegaPark.”

Entergy Louisiana to power $5.8B Hyundai steel plant /news/entergy-louisiana-to-power-5-8b-hyundai-steel-plant Tue, 25 Mar 2025 04:15:00 +0000 /blog-post/entergy-louisiana-to-power-5-8b-hyundai-steel-plant/ “Louisiana wins again,” 5,400 jobs anticipated, transformative investment in the region

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Hyundai Motor Group has made a groundbreaking decision to invest $5.8 billion in a new manufacturing facility in Louisiana. This first-of-its-kind site marks Hyundai’s inaugural North American steel facility, establishing a fully integrated, made-in-America supply chain to support its automotive manufacturing operations across the United States.

The ultra-low carbon steel production plant will be located on approximately 1,700 acres in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, anchoring the RiverPlex MegaPark on the Westbank of the Mississippi River in Ascension Parish. At approximately 17,000 acres, RiverPlex is the largest undeveloped tract along the deep-water Mississippi River. Hyundai Steel Company (HSC), a member of Hyundai Motor Group, is expected to create more than 1,300 direct new jobs with an average salary of $95,000. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project will result in about 4,100 indirect new jobs, for a total of 5,400 potential new jobs in the Capital Region.

“Hyundai’s decision to invest nearly $6 billion in Ascension Parish speaks volumes about Louisiana’s skilled workforce, robust infrastructure and our ability to compete for innovative manufacturing facilities,” Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry said. “This announcement makes clear that Louisiana’s manufacturing sector is roaring back, thanks to our historic tax reforms, our business-friendly approach and the many competitive advantages our state has to offer international powerhouses like Hyundai.”

Hyundai Steel Company

HSC plans to import an estimated 3.6 million tons of iron ore annually to the facility. Completed coils will be shipped out via rail and truck to customers, including Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, and U.S. automakers. The largest portion of steel manufactured in Louisiana will be sent to Hyundai Motor Company’s vehicle manufacturing plants throughout the U.S. The mill is expected to produce 2.7 million metric tons of steel annually.

The state-of-the-art electric arc furnace (EAF) steel mill is expected to produce 70% lower emissions than traditional blast furnaces, aligning with the Hyundai Motor Group’s mission to advance sustainable energy solutions across all of its subsidiaries.

“Hyundai Steel’s investment in an electric arc furnace (EAF) based integrated steel mill in the U.S. is anticipated to stimulate local economic growth, including the creation of new job opportunities,” Hyundai Steel Company President and CEO Gang Hyun Seo said. “We plan to supply automotive steel plates not only for Hyundai Motor and Kia’s strategic models but also to expand sales to U.S. automakers in the future.”

Louisiana Economic Development

A major victory for the state, Louisiana Economic Development showcases its ability to support businesses or industries wanting to operate on a worldwide scale.

“The effort to attract and secure Hyundai Motor Group in Louisiana is the most recent example of how our whole-of-Louisiana approach is making our state more competitive by fostering an economic ecosystem that provides an ease of doing business,” Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Susan B. Bourgeois said. “Positioning Louisiana to win means working as a team with a focus on what matters: The people and future of our state. It offers residents new career opportunities that provide growing wages and a stake in a sustainable, thriving future.”

To win the project in Louisiana, the state offered HSC a competitive incentives package including a $100 million performance-based grant for infrastructure improvements. The company is also expected to participate in the state’s Quality Jobs program. Other infrastructure upgrades, including road, rail, electric and pipelines, will enable the full development of RiverPlex MegaPark, attracting future suppliers and customers.

The HSC plant’s ultra-low carbon approach to steel sets an example for global manufacturing and lifts Ascension Parish onto the forefront of industrial innovation. By fostering cutting-edge technology steel production, Ascension Parish will secure long-term competitive advantages to attract more investment and create high-growth job opportunities.

Ascension Parish

“Ascension is proud to support businesses that drive both progress and opportunity for our citizens,” Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment said. “Through Hyundai Steel Company, we will see the creation of over 1,300 jobs, with many positions being filled by individuals trained right here in Ascension Parish. Education and training are essential in addressing poverty and inequality and laying the foundation for lasting economic growth. Today marks a milestone in our community’s journey toward a brighter and more prosperous future for all of Ascension.”

“This transformative investment from Hyundai Steel Company is a game-changer for Ascension Parish, introducing a new industry and creating abundant high-paying job opportunities for our community,” Ascension Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Kate MacArthur said. “By working closely with our partners, we remain committed to attracting new investment, developing a skilled workforce, enhancing our community, and driving long-term economic growth.”

Community College Workforce Program

To support the project’s workforce needs, River Parishes Community College and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) will develop a new local workforce training center equipped with hands-on skills coaches from LED’s FastStart program and modern learning spaces to provide job-specific instruction and administrative assistance. HSC will also have access to the full suite of LED FastStart workforce recruitment, training and sustainability services.

“River Parishes Community College is honored to be the lead training and workforce development partner for this groundbreaking project,” River Parishes Community College Chancellor Quintin D. Taylor said. “Today’s announcement marks a generational opportunity for the citizens of Donaldsonville, the Westbank of Ascension Parish, and surrounding communities. We are committed and eager to provide the access and training needed to equip local residents and other prospective students with the skills required to seize the new career opportunities created by Hyundai Steel. As the River Region’s workforce solution, we are excited to partner with HSC to help meet their workforce needs. Finally, I’d like to extend my gratitude to Governor Landry and LED Secretary Bourgeois for bringing this transformative project to Louisiana and the Westbank of Ascension.”

Riverplex Megapark

“Hyundai Steel Company represents the largest single economic development project announcement in our region since the formation of BRAC in 2005, ”Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) President and CEO Lori Melancon said. “Located in the RiverPlex MegaPark — established in 2015 through a partnership between Ascension Economic Development Corporation, BRAC, LED, and local landowners — this investment will create significant opportunities across the region while advancing new low-carbon projects in the energy and manufacturing sectors. The vision of all involved in the RiverPlex MegaPark 10 years ago is now delivering dividends for our regional economy. Entergy commits to a six-point plan for customers across Louisiana /news/entergy-commits-to-a-six-point-plan-for-customers-across-louisiana Wed, 26 Feb 2025 04:46:00 +0000 /blog-post/entergy-commits-to-a-six-point-plan-for-customers-across-louisiana/ Company celebrates a century in the state and recommits to the next 100 years of service

BATON ROUGE, La. – As one of only two Fortune 500 companies based in Louisiana, Entergy sets out to mark a century of service to the state by committing to power progress in the future through an aggressive six-point plan that will be carried out over the next decade for the people of Louisiana.

The “Louisiana 100 Plan” is a series of six specific goals Entergy Louisiana has set for itself and its employees over the next decade to better serve our state. The plan outlines detailed targets for the affordability and resiliency of our power. It specifies how we can play a larger role in the state’s economic development and job creation efforts. And it sets a clear direction for how much more our company can invest in Louisiana non-profits and communities – both in dollars and in employee volunteerism for worthwhile Louisiana projects that benefit our neighbors.

“For 100 years, Entergy has proudly served this state, and with the Louisiana 100 Plan, we’re not just celebrating our past – we’re making a commitment to Louisiana’s future,” said Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana president and CEO. “This plan is a bold promise to strengthen Louisiana’s grid, invest in our communities and support the creation of thousands of jobs across our state. As we look ahead, our mission is clear: to keep Louisiana moving forward, together.”

The “Louisiana 100 Plan” is Entergy’s renewed commitment to our home state and the over 1 million customers we serve. With more than 5,100 employees living and working in Louisiana, we are dedicated to making a positive impact.

Our plan can be found at , and we invite Louisianians to check it frequently as we will be updating our progress toward these goals on a regular basis. We will also be sharing this plan and our progress with the Louisiana Public Service Commission, the Governor, the Legislature and other state and local leaders who are also committed to Louisiana’s success.

Here is an overview of the six-point plan:

For Louisiana pocketbooks
Strive to keep Louisiana residential electric rates 100 points below the national average.

Despite bouts of inflation and fluctuations in natural gas prices, our residential electric rates remain below the national average. To accomplish this, we have invested responsibly in our power grid and driven operational efficiencies to provide benefits like renewable energy and enhanced grid resilience.

To make sure rates remain affordable, we are:

  • Continuing to transform and diversify our power generation fleet by maintaining existing nuclear plants and incorporating more renewables.
  • Maintaining membership in Midcontinent Independent System Operator, a grid operator that helps enhance reliability and operational efficiency for utilities in the middle of the U.S. from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. Since joining MISO in December 2013, Entergy customers in Louisiana have saved hundreds of millions of dollars.
  • Strategically investing in transmission and distribution grid hardening projects that would reduce storm restoration costs and result in significant cost savings for customers.
  • Aggressively pursuing alternative funding sources like government grants to offset investment costs that may increase bills.
  • Executing a  that reduces fees like late fees and connection/reconnection fees and expanding a program that provides discounts to low-income older adults.

For Louisiana power
Strengthen the Louisiana grid by storm hardening more than 100 circuits across the state every year.

In the face of more severe weather patterns, we are hardening the power grid so that our company and dedicated workforce, communities and economy are more resilient and able to recover more quickly following major storms. Entergy serves 59 Louisiana parishes, including businesses and industries that are critical to not only local economies, but also the national and global economy, and we must continue providing them services they can depend on. Through comprehensive grid resilience programs, the company is poised to usher in a new era of grid reliability, resilience and economic prosperity.

To build resilience into our power grid, we are:

  • Executing comprehensive grid resilience plans that were approved by the Louisiana Public Service Commission and New Orleans City Council The plans include replacing or upgrading thousands of utility poles with stronger ones designed to withstand higher winds and more extreme weather events. Ultimately, the plans will help avoid billions of dollars in future storm restoration costs.
  • Continuing to inspect, maintain and improve the power grid through reliability projects that include trimming trees and limbs away from power lines, replacing utility poles and power lines and installing smart devices that add automation to the electric system.

For Louisiana prosperity
Boost the Louisiana economy by attracting $100 billion in new industrial projects with reliable power and competitive rates.

Driven by world-class infrastructure like an extensive pipeline network for feedstocks, robust transportation options like railways and deepwater ports and an available and adaptable workforce, businesses and industries are looking to expand or move operations into Louisiana like never before. While the state has been known as a leader in oil and gas production, it is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the next energy and technology boom. By attracting world-renowned companies like Meta to our state, we’re helping ensure the next generation has opportunities within our borders.

To drive economic development and create new jobs, we are:

  • Partnering with the State of Louisiana and its economic development arm, Louisiana Economic Development, as well as regional economic development organizations and educational institutions that are exploring modern energy production and building the workforce of the future.
  • Continuing efforts to retain existing businesses and industries and recruit new economic development projects to Louisiana. This will help keep jobs and create new ones, putting more money back into the pockets of businesses and people that live in our communities.
  • Making sure there is reliable and sustainable power today and into the future to serve existing businesses as well as those that want to call Louisiana home. This keeps Louisiana attractive to people and their families and keeps us competitive, increasingly the likelihood developers and others choose Louisiana over other states.

For Louisiana paychecks
Create 100,000 new, non-utility jobs with strategic power investments across Louisiana.

Louisiana offers opportunities in a variety of job sectors like agriculture, energy, healthcare and manufacturing, for example. In addition, high-tech and existing industries need reliable power, and emerging industries the state is recruiting are looking to locate in areas that have sustainable and affordable power.

To make sure businesses and industries have the power and workforce they need to operate in Louisiana, we are:

  • Strengthening partnerships with state and local agencies, organizations and educational institutions.
  • Investing in programs and initiatives that develop the workforce of the future. Entergy has provided millions of dollars to technical colleges and universities to help students earn manufacturing certifications and enhance engineering programs.
  • Building out infrastructure like transmission lines and adding sustainable energy the state needs to support business and industrial growth, which ultimately leads to high paying jobs and economic activity.

For Louisiana partners
Invest $100 million in shareholder dollars to Louisiana communities, schools, charities and non-profits.

To create opportunities for all Louisianans and foster meaningful community growth, collaboration is essential. At Entergy, we believe in the dual power of charitable giving and strong partnerships. By concentrating our philanthropic efforts on education and workforce development, poverty reduction and environmental sustainability, we help build healthier, more vibrant communities. Achieving this vision requires teamwork, and we are thankful for the organizations and nonprofits that join us in working toward a better, brighter Louisiana.

To step beyond the grid and invest in our communities, we are committed to:

  • Providing charitable contributions that support our philanthropic focus areas. Importantly, these donations do not affect our customers’ bills; they are funded by shareholders who invest back into the communities we serve.
  • Advocating for and supporting programs like the Low-Income Home ϳԹ Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Entergy’s The Power to Care, which provide utility bill assistance to low-income customers, older adults and individuals with disabilities.

For Louisiana people
Give employees paid time off to volunteer in their communities, providing $100,000 in labor value every month to Louisiana non-profits.

Our employees are more than just local customer service representatives, engineers or lineworkers; we are your friends and neighbors, cheering on our young ones from the school bleachers. We take pride in serving our communities and are dedicated to seeing them thrive. That is why many of our employees volunteer their time at local schools, churches and food pantries, giving back to the communities we call home.

To enhance the quality of life for everyone, we are committed to organizing, promoting and participating in volunteer efforts. These initiatives include efforts to clean up and protect the environment, reduce hunger, create healthier communities and keep the spirit and culture of Louisiana alive for future generations.

May concluded, “The Louisiana 100 Plan helps underscore that we’re 100% committed to making the next 100 years even better than the last – because this is our home, too. We’re from Louisiana and for Louisiana.”

Entergy Louisiana strengthens the grid with completion of transmission upgrades in Metairie /news/entergy-louisiana-strengthens-the-grid-with-completion-of-transmission-upgrades-in-metairie Tue, 11 Feb 2025 06:36:00 +0000 /blog-post/entergy-louisiana-strengthens-the-grid-with-completion-of-transmission-upgrades-in-metairie/ METAIRIE, La. – Entergy Louisiana has completed critical upgrades to its transmission infrastructure in Metairie as part of its resilience plan. The project marks the beginning of the transmission portion of the company’s  by replacing wooden transmission structures inside a major Jefferson Parish substation with single-pole steel structures rated for 150 mph wind speeds.

These enhancements are designed to improve the strength and resiliency of the transmission system, reducing the likelihood of service interruptions and aligning with Entergy’s broader efforts to modernize Louisiana’s electric grid.

“These infrastructure upgrades are a key part of our resilience strategy, ensuring we continue to provide reliable power to our customers,” said Phillip May, president and CEO of Entergy Louisiana. “By modernizing our grid and investing in stronger materials, we’re building a more robust electric system that will serve Louisiana communities for years to come.”

This project is one of many infrastructure improvements underway as part of Phase I of Entergy Louisiana’s recently approved resilience program. The company’s resilience plan focuses on reinforcing critical transmission and distribution structures across the state.

Over the next four years, Entergy Louisiana’s resilience plan will fortify electric infrastructure statewide, strengthening the power grid and safeguarding Louisiana’s economy. The initial phase includes 2,100 projects targeting 69,000 distribution and transmission structures. Upgrades include replacing electric equipment, such as poles, guy wires, anchors and power lines, to meet modern wind-loading standards.

Construction on the Metairie-based project began in January as crews installed the drill pier foundation followed by the installation of the new steel transmission poles. With these upgrades now complete, the transmission line is better equipped to support resilient electric service for customers in the Metairie area.

With this latest project completed, Entergy Louisiana remains focused on delivering long-term system enhancements that provide the best value to customers. Through strategic investments in grid resilience, the company is strengthening Louisiana’s electric infrastructure and ensuring continued reliability across its service territory.
