Piglia, who has a Bachelor of Science in finance from Louisiana State University and a Master of Accounting degree from the University of Missouri—St. Louis, grew up in Harvey, Louisiana. She joined Entergy in 2019 as a financial analyst lead for the utility finance and strategy group. She later changed roles to be the financial analyst lead for Entergy Louisiana prior to joining the incident response group.Ěý

“Our team is responsible for ensuring employees assigned to incident response roles are trained and prepared to respond when the company experiences a disruption in normal operations,” said Piglia. “We recognize that responding to incidents is not part of most employees’ everyday jobs, and that it can be intimidating to be activated for storm duty not knowing what to do or what is expected of them.”Ěý

The goal of the training and exercise programs is to better prepare Entergy’s workforce to efficiently and effectively respond to incidents. “We do this by determining what each role needs to know to be successful in its area of incident response, assisting with setting up and tracking incident role training and testing our preparedness with a variety of exercises throughout the year,” said Piglia.Ěý

The direct impact we have on our customers during incident response activities is one of Piglia’s favorite things about her job.ĚýĚý

She noted, “Preparing our employees to feel more knowledgeable and comfortable when they temporarily step away from their day jobs to respond to a storm or some other kind of incident is so rewarding.”ĚýĚý

The company and our customers benefit from the efficiency of our company’s incident response training program with potential shorter restoration times and lower costs. Like many Entergy employees, Piglia notes how impactful it is to see the connection our company has to the communities we serve during storm restoration–an opportunity she didn’t always have in her day job which is why she values each incident response role.ĚýĚý

Ěý“My current storm role is serving as the deputy administration section chief, and I enjoy it. The administration section roles are responsible for the administrative tasks that are involved in storm restoration,” said Piglia.Ěý

The administration team does a great deal of work while response crews are actively restoring customers’ power. In fact, many of the workers who support this team stay activated after restoration is complete in order to process invoices, reconcile credit cards, refine cost estimates and assist in regulatory filings and financial disclosures.ĚýĚýĚýĚý

Just recently Piglia had the opportunity to support the company’s preparation efforts for the Taylor Swift concert and the Super Bowl-two events that were big economic boosts to the city.Ěý

“My first involvement with the Taylor Swift concerts and Super Bowl planning started in January 2024 when theĚýincident response team was asked to co-present very early plans for Super Bowl LIX and what changes have taken place since the last time New Orleans hosted the Super Bowl in 2013. Over the next few weeks, that morphed into me leading the planning team for both events.”Ěý

The planning team consisted of several business functions – power delivery, security, power generation, facilities, event planning, customer service and many more – all with their own objectives for Super Bowl planning. Piglia was charged with ensuring those plans were moving forward, understanding each function’s plans, and forming it all into one cohesive plan. She, along with several others, also represented Entergy in two Super Bowl sub-committees led by city agencies and had the opportunity to engage with external stakeholders.ĚýĚý

“This Super Bowl was important for our company following the power outage that occurred during the 2013 Super Bowl,” said Marcelle. “We went into the event confident we would not see a repeat of the outage that occurred in 2013.”Ěý

Several upgrades were made within the Superdome and to Entergy’s infrastructure serving the Superdome since 2013, including the equipment that was determined to cause the outage. As part of the massive renovation, Caesar’s Superdome upgraded its lights from metal halide to LED, which take a much shorter amount of time to power up. Entergy has served the Superdome through several large events since 2013 without any power interruptions, but used the Taylor Swift concerts in October as a dry run to ensure the team would successfully execute all business functions.ĚýĚý

“It has been quite an experience seeing it all come together, and I am very proud of what this team accomplished over the last several months – not to mention a hurricane and a once-in-a-lifetime snowstorm impacting us in that time frame, too!”ĚýĚý

Piglia noted that similar to her feelings on incident response, she finds joy in seeing Entergy and many other organizations come together with the common goal of making New Orleans shine throughout events like Super Bowl week.

When she sees the company’s involvement in, and impact on, the communities we serve, Piglia is proud to work for Entergy,Ěýespecially when the company’s involvement positivelyĚýimpactsĚýher hometown ofĚýthe New Orleans Metro-area.Ěý

Outside of work, Piglia enjoys spending time with her husband, two sons and two dogs. She enjoys reading, traveling, being with family and friends, spending time outside and practicing yoga.ĚýĚý

Entergy nuclear stations prepare for tropical system /news/entergy-nuclear-stations-prepare-for-potential-tropical-system Tue, 10 Sep 2024 04:23:00 +0000 /blog-post/entergy-nuclear-stations-prepare-for-potential-tropical-system/ Nuclear plants are designed to exceed requirements to withstand regional natural disasters

JACKSON, Miss. – Entergy Nuclear, along with Entergy’s operating companies in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, is closely monitoring the progress of Tropical Storm Francine in the Gulf of Mexico. As of Monday morning, Sept. 9, the forecast from the National Hurricane Center calls for a Category 1 hurricane landfall in Louisiana on Wednesday evening.

Although the storm is not anticipated to impact our nuclear stations, we’ve entered severe weather procedures that ensure our readiness at Waterford 3 and River Bend Stations in Louisiana and Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Mississippi. Those procedures include walk-downs, securing of equipment and contingency staffing plans.

Nuclear power plants maintain the highest standard for operational safety, security, cybersecurity and emergency preparedness. The industry’s comprehensive safety procedures and stringent federal regulations keep our plants and neighboring communities safe. In addition, nuclear plants are designed to exceed requirements to withstand any historical natural disaster in their region, and Entergy’s plants have a long history of safety and security during challenging times.

Stay informed

With just a few days remaining before the system is expected to impact the coast, Entergy urges our communities and employees to remain weather aware. For up-to-date information, visit the  and follow Entergy Nuclear on .

From Olympic gold to professional success /news/from-olympic-gold-professional-success Fri, 23 Aug 2024 06:10:00 +0000 /blog-post/from-olympic-gold-professional-success/ In honor of the recent closing of the 2024 Summer Olympics, we would like to take a moment to celebrate not just the athletes of today, but also those who have paved the way for future generations.

Among them is one of our very own Entergy New Orleans employees, Derek Mills, who participated in the 1996 Olympics and brought home a gold medal in the 4x400m relay. His journey from the track to the corporate world is a testament to how the discipline and skills developed through sports can translate into professional success.

Mills’ passion for running started as a young boy when he was in fifth grade. His dedication and talent propelled him through high school at DeMatha High School in Maryland, then as a competitive athlete at Georgia Tech. During his collegiate career, Derek was a 4-time NCAA Champion and honored as an 11-time NCAA All-American athlete.

As a professional athlete, Mills was the 1993 and 1995 World Championship Gold Medalist and later participated in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, where he took home the gold in the 4x400m relay race.

His experience on the track has been key to his professional success. Mills believes that the qualities that made him thrive on the track—hard work, perseverance, and goal-setting—are also vital in the business world. ĚýDerek’s track career has left an indelible mark on his life, but it was his experience at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta that truly shaped his outlook on teamwork and leadership.

“The 1996 Olympics confirmed my belief that good teamwork and leadership are critical to the success of a team or an organization,” said Derek Mills, Entergy New Orleans’ manager of demand side management. “Our squad was a close unit, having competed against each other for years in college and even high school. Our shared history made it easy for us to develop a friendship based on respect. We trusted each other and held each other accountable. Trust and accountability are critical components of effective teamwork.”

As we honor the participants in this year’s Olympic games, we are proud to recognize our colleague’s outstanding achievements and the invaluable lessons he brings to our team. Derek Mills’ story is a powerful reminder that the principles of teamwork, leadership, and determination are relevant not only in athletics, but also in every aspect of our lives.

Celebrating diversity and inclusion at New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity’s Pride Build /blog/celebrating-diversity-inclusion-at-new-orleans-area-habitat-for-humanity-s-pride-build Wed, 17 Jul 2024 22:12:00 +0000 /celebrating-diversity-inclusion-at-new-orleans-area-habitat-for-humanity-s-pride-build For the third consecutive year, Entergy served as the presenting sponsor of the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity’s 3rd Annual Pride Build. The event brought together local members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies to construct a home for an inspiring family in the Lower Ninth Ward neighborhood. This project underscores Entergy’s unwavering commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and in our community.

“Entergy is proud to be the presenting sponsor of the 3rd Annual Pride Build event,” said Nyka Scott, vice president of customer relations for Entergy New Orleans. “This partnership reflects our commitment to inclusivity and to ensuring everyone has the opportunity to live in a safe, affordable and welcoming environment.”

Decades of systemic discrimination have often barred LGBTQ+ families and individuals from homeownership. The Pride Build event raises awareness of the need for affordable housing and its power to transform lives. In partnership with local organizations and volunteers, NOAHH undertook the construction of a home for a local family in need. This project was more than just a construction endeavor. It served as a powerful statement of support and recognition for the LGBTQ+ community and highlighted the important role affordable housing plays in building strong and diverse communities.

“Our mission is to responsibly build communities where families can thrive, in homes they can afford,” said Marguerite Oestreicher, executive director of NOAHH. “By providing a safe and affordable home for the Martin family during Pride Month, we are also building a foundation of acceptance and inclusion. This project reflects our belief that everyone deserves a decent place to live regardless of their background or identity.”

The event received widespread support from the community. Volunteers from various sectors came together to contribute to the project, including over 20 staff members from Entergy New Orleans. Through the Pride Build, the participants were given a unique opportunity for employee engagement while also cultivating an environment of inclusivity and acceptance.

As the presenting sponsor, Entergy is honored to partner with NOAHH to support the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion in our community. We look forward to continuing our partnership with NOAHH and other organizations in our efforts in building more inclusive future.

Entergy New Orleans partners with Youthforce NOLA to propel the careers of five local students /blog/entergy-new-orleans-partners-with-youthforce-nola-propel-careers-five-local-students Fri, 25 Aug 2023 23:31:00 +0000 /entergy-new-orleans-partners-with-youthforce-nola-propel-careers-five-local-students

At the end of July, five rising seniors from New Orleans high schools completed our Know Your Power High School Internship pilot program. In partnership with YouthForce NOLA, the five-week program underscored our commitment to diversity and inclusion by helping the students understand their strengths and interests while familiarizing them with the various functional areas of Entergy and reinforcing workplace skills.

“I pulled my team together to really think about how we can do things differently to pull folks in from the local community and give them the opportunity to see behind the curtain and understand what opportunities in our company are out there for them,” said Steven Benyard, vice president, reliability.

The interns, who went through a rigorous application process with YouthForce NOLA, completed four weeks of soft-skills training prior to beginning their internships in June.

“Expanding options, opportunity and prosperity for our youth and city takes us all, working together, said Sarah Bell, chief of industry and exposure at YouthForce NOLA. “We are grateful to Entergy for its leadership in hosting five YouthForce NOLA interns this summer as part of the Know Your Power initiative. The Entergy team generously gave their time and talent to these young people, helping them grow the skills and know-how needed to be ready to step into great jobs after high school.”

Upon starting at Entergy, students learned about skill crafts and trades that are important to careers in energy. They also worked on STEM projects that focused on power delivery and power generation. The internship also covered business topics – like ideation, customer service, marketing and accounting – as well as communications, legal and regulatory topics. Interviewing, problem solving and hands-on team building activities were also a part of the curriculum.

“As long as you have the want to and the willingness, the sky’s the limit in terms of where you can aspire to be at Entergy,” said Shelton Hudson, director, reliability. “Entergy helps to develop you to grow and be with the company.”

Each of the five students had a different focus area: distribution engineering, customer service, power delivery, public affairs and electrical leadership and management. A capstone presentation at the end of the program provided the interns a chance to present their learnings and final deliverables to a group of our company’s leaders.

“After spending time with Entergy, I realized that you aren’t just powering life, but you showed me that I can power my own life to go all around the world,” said Phabien Ferrand, distribution engineering intern and student at Landry College and Career Preparatory High School. “Actually, I take away some key skills, so now I’m moving forward when I’m in school to work on my communication skills, time management and problem solving for my classwork.”

In addition to a certificate of completion, updated resume and LinkedIn profile, each of the interns walked away with a roster of new contacts at Entergy and the promise of semiannual follow-ups from the diversity and workforce strategies team. Those follow-ups will continue until post-secondary graduation.

“Someone was willing to invest in me to show me all the different opportunities that are out there, and that’s all that I’m looking to do – to hopefully inspire kids and open their eyes to see that there’s so much out there in terms of careers,” Hudson said. “You can be working right here in your community and doing great things for the community.”

Other high schools represented by the interns were Livingston Collegiate Academy, Warren Easton Charter, Einstein: Sarah T. Reed, and Edna Carr.
