The event spotlighted key projects beginning in District C, where work will be visible along the General DeGaulle corridor. These improvements include the installation of stronger utility poles designed to withstand winds of up to 140 miles per hour. The Accelerated Resilience Plan includes 63 infrastructure improvement projects across the city scheduled for completion between 2025 and 2026, with no impact to customer bills.

“Resilience is about storms, making sure that if the power goes out—hopefully it won’t—but if it does, that we can get it back on as quickly as possible,” said Deanna Rodriguez, president and CEO of Entergy New Orleans. “Our city needs to be more resilient, and we have solutions and that is exactly what we need to be investing in.”

Councilmember Helena Moreno echoed the need for grid improvements and highlighted the broader impact. “Strengthening our power grid is one of the most important things that we can do to improve quality of life in our city,” said Councilmember-at-Large Helena Moreno. “This effort also supports public health, our local businesses, and future job creation.”

“One of the first phases is installing brand new poles along General DeGaulle Highway to guard against power loss after a storm,” said Councilmember Freddie King III, who represents District C. “I’m proud to be a part of a city council that not only talks but acts and invests in these much-needed improvements.”

This first phase includes 63 critical infrastructure improvement projects that will be completed over the next two years, with no impact to customer bills. This $100 million investment is designed to safeguard homes, businesses and essential services from the effects of extreme weather events, helping to make our city safer, stronger and more resilient.

Initial work is underway in District E, where crews and contractors have begun installing stronger, storm-hardened poles designed to withstand winds of up to 140 miles per hour. These upgrades will significantly improve reliability for residents in this area and will help reduce the time it takes to restore service after a severe storm.

May 12-16 marks��, but for Entergy employees, it seems like the observance is celebrated daily.

Throughout the company’s service area, a dizzying number of projects are being planned, designed, approved, built and put into service. These projects will improve resiliency, enhance reliability, supply economic growth and meet increased residential demand for Entergy’s 3 million customers.

Entergy Louisiana��is investing more than $400 million over the next four years to upgrade approximately 730 miles of distribution and transmission lines across the state’s Capital Region. As part of the project, approximately 20,300 poles will be upgraded to withstand winds of up to 150 mph, helping to ensure the continuity of service in the face of increasingly severe weather events.

The initiative will directly benefit the Capital Region’s vital industries, as well as small businesses, schools, hospitals and residential customers that rely on affordable and reliable power. With more than $30 billion in industrial projects currently evaluating investment in the region, enhanced grid reliability is a critical factor in supporting continued economic growth.

Entergy Texas��is roughly 70% complete with construction of the Orange County Advanced Power Station. The plant, designed to generate 1,215 megawatts of power, remains on track to power more than 230,000 homes by June 2026.

Bringing this massive project to life requires an impressive inventory of materials:

• Over 1.3 million feet of electrical cables
• More than 43,000 feet of underground piping
• Nearly 2,000 tons of steel
• Over 22,000 cubic yards of concrete

Entergy Texas expects energy demand across residential, commercial and industrial customer bases to increase over the next few years. This growth in energy consumption requires the Entergy Texas power grid to have an additional 1,600 megawatts of generation capacity by 2028, which is approximately 40% of current generation capacity.��.

Entergy New Orleans��has announced a $100 million��, approved by the New Orleans City Council in October 2024. The plan reflects a commitment to strengthening the grid and creating jobs while driving long-term growth.

The first phase of work, to be completed in 2025-2026, will include 65 individual projects, strengthening 3,096 structures and upgrading 63 electric line miles.

Company employees are already working closely with local partners to help transform the city’s economic landscape in other positive ways:

• The River District Neighborhood Initiative will feature a mixed-use neighborhood with sustainable designs, green spaces, and advanced infrastructure. This project is expected to generate over $1 billion in economic activity and $43 million in annual tax revenue.
• Five O’ Four Golf, a $40 million golf-entertainment facility, will include a driving range, dining options, and other amenities, bringing jobs, tourism, and entertainment to the region.
• ,��the first site in the city to be classified as a “Certified Site” under the Louisiana Economic Development’s Certified Sites Program, will benefit residents by creating jobs, improving infrastructure, and enhancing logistics and transportation services.

Entergy Arkansas��continues its plans to invest millions of dollars into grid upgrades and one example is the recently completed significant reliability upgrades in the Harrisburg community aimed at modernizing aging infrastructure, increasing resilience and reducing the risk of power interruptions. The year-long project, which includes more than two miles of new distribution lines and enhancing substation equipment, is expected to bring improved stability to the area, providing farmers and residents with the reliable power needed to operate essential irrigation systems during the hot summer months.

These upgrades represent a proactive investment in the community’s future, helping farmers, residents and local businesses thrive with expanded electrical stability. In total for this project, Entergy Arkansas has invested more than $12 million in new upgrades and has rebuilt more than a mile of existing distribution lines allowing the company to support increased load demands and provide consistent power delivery, even during high-demand periods.

������Entergy Mississippi, construction is underway at the��Delta Blues Advanced Power Station��in Greenville. By replacing end-of-life gas generation with more clean and efficient generation, the company is ensuring customers continue to have modern, reliable energy well into the future.

Delta Blues Advanced Power Station will be a 754-megawatt facility capable of powering 385,000 homes across Entergy Mississippi’s 45-county service area.

The $1.2 billion investment represents a significant economic impact for the Mississippi Delta, including more than 300 construction jobs in the area over the next several years and additional tax revenue for Washington County. Entergy will employ about 21 full-time personnel to operate the plant when it comes online. When fully operational, the plant will provide the state a newer, cleaner and more attractive power source to highlight when recruiting new industry and jobs to Mississippi.

�ճ����Entergy Nuclear��River Bend Station in St. Francisville, La., has recently��, transitioning to a nationally approved system that continues to alert local broadcast and news outlets about severe weather, while putting information directly in the hands of residents.

Similar to how people now get storm warnings through their electronic and mobile devices, the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System is now set to give local residents more information in a timelier manner should an emergency occur.

IPAWS works by sending local emergency messages to the public to customer’s mobile phones using wireless emergency alerts, to radio and television via the Emergency Alert System and also on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s, or NOAA, weather radio. The Federal Emergency Management Agency developed IPAWS over a decade ago is currently being used by major nuclear plants across the nation.

These investments, and many more like them, are part of an aggressive plan to invest $37 billion in the grid through 2028. For details,��check out Entergy’s most recent performance report.

During these district walk-downs, our line workers and customer service teams collaborated with community members to identify issues that could impact electric service reliability. As part of this proactive approach, line workers surveyed the area for potential maintenance issues and performed some repairs on-site. The hands-on process allowed for real-time identification and resolution of service concerns and reduced the need for unplanned repairs in the future.

During these events, we not only repaired the infrastructure, but also opened the lines of communication between Entergy New Orleans and the residents we serve. By inviting community members to participate, ask questions, and share feedback, the walk-downs helped to build transparency and allowed us to better meet the needs of our customers.

After Hurricane Ida, Entergy New Orleans submitted a 10-year, $1B resilience plan. Under the agreement approved today, Entergy New Orleans can begin implementing the two-year $100m plan that the Council has approved. 

The first phase of work, to be completed in 2025-2026, will include 65 individual projects, strengthening 3,096 structures, and upgrading 63 electric line miles. Total cost for the initial tranche is estimated to be $100M over a two-year period. Entergy New Orleans will be providing information on its Resilience website that shows which neighborhoods will benefit from these projects.

There will be no bill impacts for Entergy customers resulting from the projects approved today.

Entergy New Orleans routinely invests in repairs and upgrades to our power infrastructure, but the work beginning under this plan will represent the most comprehensive grid update in the city’s history. When combined with the GRIP grant funded infrastructure projects approved by the Council in January, today’s approval represents a $200M investment in making the grid stronger. Entergy New Orleans has been awarded a Department of ���ϳԹ��� grant which will offset $55M of these costs.

Entergy used a data-driven approach to meticulously evaluate thousands of potential storm scenarios to identify these projects, many of which involve replacing existing utility poles with stronger ones designed to withstand higher winds and more extreme weather events.

The anticipated benefits of the overall resilience plan include improvements in the everyday reliability of electric service, and customer savings related to shortening post-storm outages. By mitigating the restoration costs and outages resulting from future extreme weather events, the plan will help shorten evacuations and time away from home and work, ultimately helping New Orleans communities get back on their feet more quickly.

The current grid was designed over 70 years ago, and its infrastructure was not built to withstand the stronger storms that we are seeing with growing frequency. Over the last 50 years, 9 category 4 and 5 hurricanes have hit the US mainland. Six have hit us in the past 5 years. Louisiana alone saw 4 hurricanes hit our coast between 2020-2021.��

To improve reliability in the face of more severe storm threats, Entergy New Orleans formed a task force to ensure continuity of service. Tasked with an ambitious 8-year plan, the team embarked on a mission to bolster reliability system-wide.

Improvements in Reliability

Between 2019 and 2023, Entergy New Orleans invested $150 million in strengthening and upgrading our infrastructure and the results of those efforts are clear. Data indicates a 24% improvement in electric service reliability from 2019 to 2023 across our service territory. This progress, measured by the frequency and duration of power interruptions experienced by the average customer, demonstrates the success of our multifaceted approach to maintaining, strengthening, and upgrading the power grid.

Each district within the city has seen improvements over the past year:

District C: ������������ 18% improvement

The improvements in reliability were achieved while adhering to standards set by our regulators, the New Orleans City Council. The remarkable gains in power delivery stem from targeted efforts to repair and upgrade existing lines throughout the city, prioritizing the lines most in need of repair.

In addition to repairing and replacing power lines, Entergy New Orleans is laying the groundwork for full automation through the installation of smart grids that detect and isolate faults on the grid. This technology not only mitigates the impact of outages, but also speeds up the recovery process after service interruptions.

The improvements in reliability over the past 4 years are a testament to the effectiveness of Entergy New Orleans’ strategic investments and innovations. However, the journey doesn’t end here.�� In January 2024, we began deployment on a capital plan which strategically focuses on hardening the transmission and distribution delivery system and improving the reliability of our service.

Anticipated benefits of this resiliency project include:

• Transmission hardening of approximately 97 structures; expected to avoid more than 564 million customer minutes interruptions.
• Distribution hardening of approximately 381 structures; expected to avoid more than 45 million customer minutes interruptions.
• Significantly improved resilience during extreme weather events, with¬†lower expected outage frequency and¬†duration due to electric infrastructure hardening and battery installation.
• Deployment of a line hardening and battery backup project, which will reduce the energy bills for disadvantaged communities.

The grant award also includes a significant Community Benefits Plan. Entergy New Orleans will be working with several of its community partners like the New Orleans Career Center, the First72+ and Delgado Community College on workforce development programs, as well as its Community Benefits Advisory Board to ensure that customers in the project area are kept abreast of construction updates and benefits for the New Orleans East community.  

Entergy New Orleans has been recommended by the Grid Deployment Office for negotiation of a final award, a process which can take approximately 120 days. Additional information regarding the process is available .

NEW ORLEANS – Entergy New Orleans President and CEO Deanna Rodriguez today announced the launch of “Operation Gridiron”, an ambitious power infrastructure program designed to make the city’s grid stronger and to better prepare our community for more frequent, stronger storms.

“In the coming weeks, you will see ‘Operation: Gridiron’ signs popping up all over the City,” said Rodriguez. “Each of these signs marks the location of projects that will strengthen our energy infrastructure in these neighborhoods to enable us to keep the lights on longer when a storm hits, and to restore power more quickly when it is disrupted.”

The “Operation: Gridiron” (OGI) plan was developed in response to a request by the New Orleans City Council following Hurricane Ida in 2021. The proposal is before the City Council for their consideration and approval.

If approved, Operation: Gridiron will provide New Orleans with one of the most storm-ready power infrastructures in the United States. Under this plan, Entergy will be:

• Investing $1 billion in our grid over 10 years in two, 5-year phases
• Cutting outage times by more than half and saving customers millions of dollars
• Upgrading thousands of poles to withstand 150 mph winds
• Hardening 650 miles of power lines����
• Performing responsible work with full transparency, empowering the community to hold us accountable for the work being done

If you don’t see a project highlighted in your area, that area has either already been hardened, or upgrades would not be cost-efficient for New Orleans customers. Additionally, all customers in a given area benefit when power restoration resources have fewer outages to address. Note these planned projects are pending Council approval and are subject to change.

Since 2018, drones have played a crucial role in the storm restoration process, flying through damaged areas to survey miles of hard-hit infrastructure. Now, Entergy’s Unmanned Aerial Systems Pilots are utilizing this technology more frequently before a storm occurs, gathering information on our system from a bird’s eye view. In this way, Entergy’s crews inspect large portions of our service territory in a fraction of the time it might have taken in the past.

“The use of drones has been a major technological breakthrough as we continue to evolve the maintenance and improvement processes for our city’s power grid,” said Drew Thompson, Distribution Reliability Manager of Entergy New Orleans. “I strongly believe that continuous improvement of our reliability standards is made possible by bridging the gap between traditional methods and new, innovative, cutting-edge tools.”

During the busiest phase of hurricane season, Thompson and Entergy’s engineers are ensuring our system is as reliable and resilient as possible. Drones increasingly play a key part to ensure the team has eyes on every distribution line, utility pole and substation in New Orleans. Our engineers then use the data to help plan for vegetation management, equipment upgrades and maintenance.
