JACKSON, Miss. – Entergy Nuclear, along with Entergy’s operating companies in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, is closely monitoring the progress of Tropical Storm Francine in the Gulf of Mexico. As of Monday morning, Sept. 9, the forecast from the National Hurricane Center calls for a Category 1 hurricane landfall in Louisiana on Wednesday evening.

Although the storm is not anticipated to impact our nuclear stations, we’ve entered severe weather procedures that ensure our readiness at Waterford 3 and River Bend Stations in Louisiana and Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Mississippi. Those procedures include walk-downs, securing of equipment and contingency staffing plans.

Nuclear power plants maintain the highest standard for operational safety, security, cybersecurity and emergency preparedness. The industry’s comprehensive safety procedures and stringent federal regulations keep our plants and neighboring communities safe. In addition, nuclear plants are designed to exceed requirements to withstand any historical natural disaster in their region, and Entergy’s plants have a long history of safety and security during challenging times.

Stay informed

With just a few days remaining before the system is expected to impact the coast, Entergy urges our communities and employees to remain weather aware. For up-to-date information, visit the  and follow Entergy Nuclear on .

Entergy Mississippi Storm Update – 8/29/21 @ 2:30 p.m. /stormcenter/42681454-2 Thu, 02 Sep 2021 01:37:00 +0000 /42681454-2 As Hurricane Ida pushes into our service area, we are prepared for the significant threat of high winds and flash flooding. A prolonged period of high winds andÌýheavy rain increases the potential for extended power outages.ÌýWe expect the restoration effort to take several days and up to a week or more in our hardest hit areas.

Entergy crew members areÌýready to respond as soon as it is safe to do so. We cannot operate bucket trucks with winds at 30mph or greater.Ìý Those wind speeds are expected along and south of the I-20 corridor.Ìý

Ìý

We are working to ensure we have the people and resources to respond to outages safely. We have requested an additional 500 Linemen, 250 Vegetation workers, as well as additional damage assessment and support for the workforce.Ìý We expect to start seeing power outages Sunday afternoon as the outer bands reach into southern Mississippi.Ìý We expect the storm to take 24 to 36 hours to clear our territory.Ìý

ÌýWe urge customers to continue to monitor local weather and have an emergency response plan in place. For preparation tips and updates visitÌý.

Along with standard storm preparations, Entergy employees are navigating the COVID-19 pandemic by taking additional steps. These include traveling separately when possible, adjusting crew staging locations and increasing the use of drones. Due to the additional measures crews must take, restoration may take longer, especially where there are widespread outages. Additionally, crews will continue to practice social distancing and we ask that customers do the same. For their safety and yours, please stay away from work zones. If you need to report a problem with your service or get bill payment help, we’re just a phone call away: 1-800-ENTERGY.Ìý

Customer Safety

As with any weather event, please be mindful of the following safety tips:

  • Live wires can be deadly. Stay away from downed power lines. Call 1-800-9OUTAGE or 1-800-968-8243 to report downed or dangling power lines, poles or other damaged equipment.
  • Do not trim trees or remove debris on or near downed power lines. Only power company crews or their contractors should remove trees or limbs touching power lines.
  • Keep away from the immediate areas where crews are working. There is always the danger of moving equipment and the possibility of construction materials or limbs or overhead wires falling to the ground.
  • If you plan on using a generator for temporary power, get a licensed electrician and disconnect from the utility electric system before hooking up to your home main electric panel.Ìý
  • Do not run a generator in a confined space without adequate ventilation.
  • Avoid using candles or other flammable devices to warm your home.Ìý
  • Check on seniors, who can be particularly susceptible to extreme temperatures.Ìý
  • Try to stay off the roads in affected areas. More traffic in bad weather leads to more accidents, including more injuries and fatalities as well as accidents that can damage electrical poles and other equipment, creating outages and impeding the ability of crews to access and repair damage and slowing restoration.

NEW ORLEANS – After nearly three months of voting, five different nonprofits across Entergy’s (NYSE: ETR) service territory each are receiving $25,000 grants as part of The Power to Care Facebook Challenge. More than 54,000 votes were cast in the contest. Ìý

The winners in each of Entergy’s five service territories are:

  • Arkansas –
  • Louisiana –

In addition to the $25,000 grants going to the winners, the other four finalists in each service area will also receive a $1,000 grant from Entergy. All told, Entergy is giving away $145,000 in grants as part of The Power to Care Facebook Challenge.

The competition began in early October and allowed anyone with a Facebook account to vote twice a month for one of 25 charities at .

“The Power to Care Facebook Challenge was a new way for us to highlight the great work that nonprofits in our community are doing and to engage customers as well,” said Patty Riddlebarger, Entergy’s director of corporate social responsibility. “The response to the Power to Care challenge from customers and other Facebook users has been so positive that we will be launching a new contest beginning in January.

“We encourage nonprofits and members of the community to continue posting their updates and news on The Power to Care Facebook page,” Riddlebarger added. “A random drawing will be held each month to select the ‘post of the month.’ Winning agencies each month will receive a $1,000 grant.”

ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø and its employees are committed to giving back to the communities it serves. Last year ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø and the Entergy Charitable Foundation awarded grants totaling more than $15.8 million to almost 3,000 nonprofit organizations. Ìý

NEW ORLEANS – You’re invited to experience Entergy’s power to care.

Entergy customers and other residents in the company’s four-state utility service territory will determine the winners of $125,000 in grants in The Power to Care Challenge, a lively online contest in which selected nonprofits will vie for $25,000 prizes based on votes by Facebook users.

From Oct. 11 through Dec. 31, voters can visit and vote twice a month for their favorite nonprofit agency. Agencies with the most votes in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Orleans and Texas will each earn a $25,000 grant from ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø.

“There are a lot of great organizations that work to make our communities stronger, and we’re always looking for new and creative ways to support them,” said Patty Riddlebarger, Entergy’s director of corporate social responsibility. “This time we’re involving the whole community in The Power to Care Challenge from Entergy so customers and other residents in the states we serve can help us make a difference by voting for their favorite nonprofit agency.”

To vote, anyone with a Facebook account can visit The Power to Care page on Facebook.com (). Users must first click the “like” button on The Power to Care page before they can vote.

The five non-profits competing for a $25,000 grant in each area are:

  • Entergy Arkansas, Inc.
  • Entergy Louisiana, LLC/Entergy Gulf States Louisiana, L.L.C.
  • Entergy Mississippi, Inc.
  • Entergy New Orleans, Inc.
  • Entergy Texas, Inc.

“Entergy has a long history of working with local nonprofits and community agencies. Now anyone with a Facebook account has the power to make a difference, too, just by voting in The Power to Care Challenge from Entergy. We care about our customers and believe very strongly in making a difference in the communities we serve,” Riddlebarger said, adding that “grants for the program are being funded out of shareholder profit.”
