Mount Carmel Academy champions energy efficiency through Entergy New Orleans’ şÚÁĎłÔąĎÍř Smart Program /blog/mount-carmel-academy-champions-energy-efficiency-through-entergy-new-orleans-energy-smart-program Thu, 08 May 2025 21:34:33 +0000 /?p=13369 Entergy New Orleans supports organizations that prioritize sustainability and energy efficiency. Mount Carmel Academy, an all-girls Catholic high school in New Orleans, exemplifies this commitment through its successful participation in the şÚÁĎłÔąĎÍř Smart Large Commercial Automated Demand Response Program.

Located in the Lakeview neighborhood of New Orleans, Mount Carmel Academy serves 1,200 students across its 9-acre campus. While the school did not face critical energy cost issues, it saw an opportunity to reduce its energy use and lessen environmental impact. Its decision to enroll in the şÚÁĎłÔąĎÍř Smart program demonstrates leadership in responsible energy management.

şÚÁĎłÔąĎÍř Smart’s Large Commercial Automated Demand Response Program rewards organizations that reduce electricity use during peak demand periods. Mount Carmel Academy recognized this as a clear opportunity to support our electric grid and promote sustainability. Since joining the program in 2021, the school has earned $51,237 in incentives. More importantly, it has reduced its energy footprint while reinvesting those savings into its facilities and education programs.

“As committed environmental stewards, we recognize the importance of conserving our planet’s finite resources,” said Sister Camille Anne Campbell, president of Mount Carmel Academy. “This program not only aligns with our values but also presents a great opportunity to teach our students about sustainability and resource conservation,”

The academy’s participation also serves as a teaching tool as it integrates real-world examples of energy conservation into the educational experience. The initiative reflects a deep sense of environmental responsibility, not just from the school’s leadership, but from the student body as well.

Mount Carmel Academy continues to lead by example, showing how educational institutions can play a vital role in building a more sustainable New Orleans. Entergy New Orleans’ şÚÁĎłÔąĎÍř Smart program is proud to partner with a school that turns environmental values into measurable action.

Entergy New Orleans powers the Blues Tent at Jazz Fest /news/entergy-new-orleans-powers-the-blues-tent-at-jazz-fest Fri, 25 Apr 2025 03:38:00 +0000 /blog-post/entergy-new-orleans-powers-the-blues-tent-at-jazz-fest/ NEW ORLEANS – Entergy New Orleans is proud to support the 2025 Jazz & Heritage Festival with cleaner, more sustainable power. This year, we constructed a permanent electric point of connection at the Fair Grounds to power the Blues Tent and other auxiliary services, decreasing the festival’s reliance on diesel generators and reducing event-related carbon emissions.

Electrification is a priority for Entergy New Orleans, and the installation is part of a broader effort to create permanent power sources that reduce localized emissions. The project is expected to deliver a net reduction of approximately 15 metric tons of CO₂ emissions. The electrification project also advances the festival’s environmental goals and builds upon the work of Shell, Jazz Fest’s official sustainability partner, who helped the Festival achieve .

“This project is about more than powering a stage—it’s about building a cleaner, healthier future for our city,” says Deanna Rodriguez, president and CEO of Entergy New Orleans. “By investing in electrification and partnering with organizations that share our goals, we’re helping iconic events like Jazz Fest reduce their environmental impact while continuing to serve the communities that make New Orleans so special.”

Entergy New Orleans remains committed to expanding electrification infrastructure throughout the city and supporting projects that create lasting environmental, economic, and cultural value.

Entergy’s 2024 Performance Report shares progress toward a better future /news/entergys-2024-performance-report-shares-progress-toward-a-better-future Thu, 10 Apr 2025 03:55:00 +0000 /blog-post/entergys-2024-performance-report-shares-progress-toward-a-better-future/ NEW ORLEANS – Today, Entergy announced its published , “şÚÁĎłÔąĎÍř for a better future.” This detailed report presents the company’s 2024 achievements, future plans and strategies for continued success. Presented along with financial results are the economic, environmental, governance, and social aspects helping drive outcomes for the benefit of all our stakeholders.

“As we move forward from a strong 2024, Entergy is uniquely positioned to power life for our customers and communities, today and for future generations,” said Drew Marsh, Entergy chair and chief executive officer. “Our investments in customer-driven solutions like strengthening the energy grid and advancing cleaner energy reflect our commitment to adapting to changing needs. We’re also addressing unprecedented growth opportunities while maintaining low electric rates by engaging our stakeholders on this transformational journey.”

Highlights from 2024 include:

Driving growth in our region. Entergy is benefiting from companies expanding or establishing new operations in the Gulf South. That’s in part because our service area provides access to international markets with proximity to the Mississippi River and the ports along the Gulf Coast. We have a customer-led plan to invest for continued growth, reliability and resilience while maintaining a strong balance sheet and managing risk for all stakeholders. Through 2028, we plan to invest $37 billion to meet this expected growth.

Creating a cleaner energy future. We operate one of the cleanest large-scale power generation fleets in the United States. As we continue to transform our generation portfolio to cleaner resources, we are also responsibly delivering meaningful environmental, social and economic value to the communities we serve, now and in the future. We are continuing to expand our power generation fleet to meet the need of anticipated growth in our service area — including new data centers and other large customers — with cleaner technologies. This strategy supports Entergy’s long-term commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and helps customers meet their own environmental goals through low-carbon and carbon-free power.

Affordability for our customers. Entergy is committed to keeping bills as low as possible for all our customers, especially for people struggling financially. Entergy promotes energy efficiency initiatives that help individual customers save money by reducing their usage. This includes energy audits, incentives, rebates and products to make people’s homes or businesses more energy efficient. Our Bill Toolkit, launched in 2024, empowers customers with resources and available assistance options to help them more easily manage their energy bills.

Empowering our communities. Giving back to our communities, and empowering them, is at the core of our mission. In 2024, our focus on corporate social responsibility made a meaningful difference in the lives of our customers and communities, resulting in an economic impact of $153.52 million across our service area. Our dedicated employees were vital to this success, contributing more than 122,000 hours of volunteer service, valued at more than $4 million.

Delivering on our financial commitments. Our 2024 adjusted earnings per share was $3.65, in the top half of our guidance range. Our predictable financial results are the result of our actions to create value for our customers, employees, communities and owners. We are investing in our power delivery system to improve reliability and resilience, and we are expanding our clean, modern generation to support rapidly growing industrial load and the emission reduction goals of our customers.

Entergy Texas receives approval on Phase I of Texas Future Ready Resiliency Plan /news/entergy-texas-receives-approval-on-phase-i-of-texas-future-ready-resiliency-plan Fri, 17 Jan 2025 07:16:00 +0000 /blog-post/entergy-texas-receives-approval-on-phase-i-of-texas-future-ready-resiliency-plan/ Projects included in the multiyear resiliency plan aim to strengthen the Southeast Texas power grid, reduce outage times and save customers millions in storm restoration costs

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – A brighter, more resilient energy future is on the horizon for Southeast Texas. On January 16, the Public Utility Commission of Texas unanimously approved Phase I of Entergy Texas’ Texas Future Ready Resiliency Plan. The first phase of the company’s comprehensive resiliency plan will be implemented over a roughly three-year period and includes $137 million in strategic projects to strengthen the Southeast Texas power grid, reduce storm-related outages, and save customers millions in restoration costs over the coming decades. Over the next 50 years, these improvements are projected to reduce outage times by an estimated 1 billion minutes, significantly cutting the time families and businesses spend in the dark after severe weather events.

“This is more than a plan — it’s a promise to our customers that we’re investing in their future,” said Eliecer Viamontes, president and CEO of Entergy Texas. “The PUCT’s approval allows us to continue building a power grid that can withstand today’s challenges and adapt to tomorrow’s needs. This is how we help build a stronger foundation for our communities to thrive, even in the face of extreme weather.”

The first phase of the Texas Future Ready Resiliency Plan will focus on key infrastructure upgrades, including:

  • Stronger distribution lines: Upgrading local distribution and main feeder lines to higher storm-resilient standards.
  • Stronger transmission lines: Rebuilding high-voltage lines and poles to withstand hurricane-force winds.
  • Undergrounding select lines: Moving overhead lines underground in targeted areas.

In addition, Entergy Texas plans to pursue funding from the Texas şÚÁĎłÔąĎÍř Fund to implement additional projects at no cost to customers and explore innovative financing options like storm securitization to deliver long-term savings. The company’s approach to balancing affordability with strategic grid improvements proved successful when it recently  through the Department of şÚÁĎłÔąĎÍř’s Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships program to bolster grid reliability in Port Arthur, a coastal community vulnerable to storms. A portion of these funds will offset the cost of Phase I projects as well.

Resiliency is a key component of Entergy Texas’ holistic Southeast Texas şÚÁĎłÔąĎÍř Plan (also known as STEP Ahead). This six-step strategy aims to add 1,600 megawatts of new generation capacity by 2028, maintain affordable rates, and meet the region’s rapidly growing energy needs with reliability and resilience at the forefront.

The program is committed to creating a meaningful legacy in New Orleans long after the city hosts its record-tying 11th Super Bowl on Feb. 9, 2025.

During the event, the Super Bowl LIX Host Committee, led by the New Orleans Saints and the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, and its partner organizations highlighted the importance of giving back to the community through the Host Committee theme of “It’s what we do.”

“Super Bowl LIX is about more than just a game,” said Gayle Benson, owner of the New Orleans Saints and long-time philanthropist. “It’s about showing up for our city, supporting our neighbors, and ensuring that we leave a positive, lasting legacy in the community. This program is part of what we do – to create meaningful change and provide lasting resources for the people who call New Orleans home.”

The grants awarded through Impact 59 Powered by Entergy have been allocated to nonprofit organizations focused on programs that foster positive change in youth development, workforce training, education, health and wellness, and equity and inclusion. These organizations are receiving critical support for their efforts to improve lives in New Orleans and surrounding areas, including Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, Plaquemines, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Washington parishes. A grant selection committee carefully reviewed eligibility and compliance and made award determinations based on the need, merit, and potential impact of each project.

“We understand how much Super Bowl LIX means to this community and we’re pleased to help give back to New Orleanians who have welcomed us with open arms,” said NFL Vice President of Philanthropy and Executive Director of the NFL Foundation Alexia Gallagher. “The NFL Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of those touched by the game of football. We’re proud to work with the Super Bowl LIX Host Committee to provide vital funding through the Legacy Grant Program to dozens of local organizations supporting communities in need throughout New Orleans and Louisiana.”

“Super Bowl LIX provides a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on the host community,” said Drew Marsh, Entergy Chair and Chief Executive Officer. “Through Impact 59 Powered by Entergy, we are proud to support local organizations to help them continue their vital work and strengthen our city for years to come.”

The announcement of the 65 grant recipients reinforces the New Orleans Super Bowl Host Committee’s motto: “It’s what we do.” Impact 59 Powered by Entergy ensures these local organizations receive much-needed funding and resources, furthering their critical work and fostering long-term change in the community.

“At the end of the day, Super Bowl LIX is much more than just a game,” said Jay Cicero, President and CEO of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation and the Super Bowl LIX Host Committee. “We’re only 59 days away from the opportunity to showcase our city, support our nonprofit community, boost Louisiana’s economy, and celebrate our rich culture. We are proud to contribute to this incredible legacy that extends beyond the game and has a positive impact on the people of New Orleans.”

Impact 59 is just one of several programs the Host Committee and NFL bring to New Orleans ahead of the big game. NFL Source, a diverse supplier program, launched earlier this year and engaged more than 200 underrepresented businesses in the greater New Orleans Area. Earlier this month, NFL Green and the Host Committee kicked off two sustainability projects in the city, with more to come as we get closer to Feb. 9, 2025.
