Entergy Texas helping customers stay cool and save money with energy efficiency tips and resources /news/entergy-texas-helping-customers-stay-cool-and-save-money-with-energy-efficiency-tips-and-resources Wed, 14 May 2025 03:26:00 +0000 /blog-post/entergy-texas-helping-customers-stay-cool-and-save-money-with-energy-efficiency-tips-and-resources/ Easy tips to boost home energy efficiency and lower electric bill costs

THE WOODLANDS, Texas As summer approaches and temperatures continue to rise, air conditioners will start running full blast and lead to an increase in electricity usage. However, staying cool and comfortable does not have to come at the cost of high energy bills. By making a few simple changes around your home, you can improve its energy efficiency and beat the heat while keeping costs down.

According to the U.S. 窪蹋勛圖厙 Information Administration, home heating and cooling costs can make up more than 52% of an average customers electric bill. In some cases, poor insulation, air leaks and inefficient HVAC systems can lead to even greater energy costs each year. To keep your home cool without significantly lowering the thermostat and save money on your bill at the same time, try these low-to-no-costs tips.

Improving energy efficiency with low-to-no-cost tips

  • Change air filters. Air filters on some air conditioning units require monthly cleaning or replacing.
  • Set your thermostat to the highest comfortable temperature. The smaller the difference between the inside and outside temperatures, the lower your energy usage and bill will be.
  • Buy a programmable thermostat. A programmable thermostat can help manage costs, is controllable, and can help monitor usage.
  • Use fans to cool off. Ceiling fans, box fans and oscillating fans use very little electricity to circulate the air. Make sure ceiling fans are rotating in the right direction counter-clockwise during summer to push cooler air down into the room. Be sure to turn all fans off in unused rooms.
  • Close blinds, shades and curtains to keep the sun out and the cool air in. Also, close air conditioning vents in rooms that are not in use.
  • Seal cracks and holes around doors, windows and ductwork. Weather stripping and caulk will help keep the cold air in and the hot air out.
  • Use the myAdvisor tool. The usage and cost tool can compare usage history by month, day and hour.

By following these simple steps, you can stay cool and comfortable all summer long while keeping your bills under control. We also offer泭.

Exploring resources through Bill Toolkit

To make sure customers have quick access to energy efficiency, bill management and financial assistance resources, Entergy created an online platform called泭. The platform consolidates helpful resources for customers interested in exploring ways to lower their electric use and costs and learn more about different payment options the company offers.

Tracking energy use through myAdvisor

Meanwhile, customers can set electric usage alerts and monitor how much energy they use each day through bill management tools like myAdvisor which is available through their泭泭account online. Tracking usage over time can help customers identify trends that contribute to higher usage and budget their monthly expenses. With the myAdvisor dashboard, customers have access to not only usage and cost details, but also bill history and projections, analyzer tools and more. On the Entergy mobile app, this information can be found by clicking the “usage” tab.

Managing bills through payment and assistance options

Entergy offers several flexible payment options so customers can choose when, where and how they receive their bills.

  • 泭allows customers to pay their bills when it works best for them.
  • 泭allows customers to level out seasonal energy use fluctuations, making their bills more consistent every month.
  • 泭billing allows customers to get their bills emailed as soon as they post and instant access to two years of billing history.
  • 泭allows customers to avoid late fees, writing checks and paying for postage by having bills automatically deduct from their bank accounts.

Entergy encourages customers who may need additional payment options to reach out. Customers can find out if they qualify for deferred payment arrangements or payment extensions on泭our mobile app泭or through泭泭棗紳梭勳紳梗.

THE WOODLANDS, Texas The holidays are here, and while Southeast Texas celebrates, winter weather could drive up heating costs. However, staying warm and comfortable doesnt have to come at the cost of high energy bills. By making a few simple changes around your home, you can improve its energy efficiency and keep costs down throughout the colder months.

Air leaks and inefficient heating can lead to an additional $400 in home energy costs each year. Rather than cranking up the thermostat as temperatures drop, try these affordable and easy fixes.

Prepare for cold weather

  • Use solar energy:泭Open curtains on sunny windows during the day to naturally heat the home and close them at night to reduce the chill from cold windows.
  • Insulate drafty windows:泭Use plastic film or insulation kits to cover drafty windows and stop air leaks.
  • Adjust the thermostat:泭泭Turn down your thermostat when you are asleep or out of the house to save as much as 10% a year on your heating and cooling bills.
  • Maintain heating systems:泭Replace air filters, furnace and heat pumps regularly and schedule routine maintenance to keep your泭泭running efficiently.
  • Reduce heat loss from the fireplace:泭Keep the fireplace damper closed unless a fire is burning and check the seal on the fireplace flue damper and make it as snug as possible.

Entergy Texas welcomes fall with safety reminders /news/entergy-texas-welcomes-fall-with-safety-reminders Tue, 24 Sep 2024 02:37:00 +0000 /blog-post/entergy-texas-welcomes-fall-with-safety-reminders/ These simple tips can help you avoid accidents and injuries

THE WOODLANDS, Texas Although warmer weather is still lingering around, soon cooler temps will be here. This time of year can also bring opportunities for customers to tackle home improvement or landscaping projects. As fun and gratifying as these activities can be, no one wants them to result in an accident or injury. Entergy Texas has some helpful tips for staying safe this fall.

Stay safe outdoors

The Halloween season brings children the fun of wearing costumes, enjoying candy and attending fall festivals and carnivals. The offers tips to help children celebrate safely. Prepare to welcome trick-or-treaters to your home safely by checking outdoor lights and making sure walkways and steps are well-lit and free of any tripping hazards. Any extension cords should be specifically designated for outdoor use. Use rubber gaskets in light sockets or hang sockets downward to keep water out and remember to turn outside lights and decorations off when you are away from home or asleep. Help children with videos, activities and other resources.

Keep safety first with home projects

Fall is a great time to tidy up and prep your property for winter. When cleaning up fallen leaves and branches or trimming trees, always use caution and be aware of overhead lines. Position your ladder away from overhead wires, so trimmings will not fall onto power lines. If this happens, always assume downed wires are energized and call 1-800-ENTERGY for help.

If your fall spruce-up includes digging up flower beds, trees or shrubs, remember to call before you dig. Calling 811 before you dig will keep you safe and prevent disruption of utility services to your neighborhood.

When performing maintenance activities that require a ladder inside or out, be sure to wear proper footwear, position the ladder on a flat surface, and have someone nearby to spot you.

Daylight Saving Time ends November 3

When Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, Nov. 3, fewer hours of daylight will make it harder to see children going to and from the school bus in the mornings and evenings. When driving, avoid distractions and watch for children in the neighborhood. The offers additional tips for ensuring children arrive to and from school safely.

When setting your clocks to fall back an hour, take the time to check the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. All homes should contain a carbon monoxide detector to help identify the colorless and odorless gas that can cause serious illness or death.

Stay safe and warm indoors

Candles can add a warm ambience to an autumn evening, but remember it is never safe to leave candles burning unattended. A small sputter or an errant flame can cause a fire in an instant.

They are large consumers of energy and a fire hazard and should be kept at least three feet away from draperies, rugs and furniture. Additionally, homeowners who use a gas or electric furnace should schedule an appointment for service by a certified technician to make sure it is safe for operation and for greatest efficiency.

A wood-burning stove or fireplace can add warmth and coziness to a room but should also be used with caution and proper preparation. Have your chimney cleaned by a professional before the first fire is lit. Fallen leaves, animal nests and other debris can cause the smoke to vent into your home rather than outside and cause a fire.

Remember to replace dirty air filters inside and remove debris from the unit outside to ensure your HVAC unit works efficiently through all seasons.

Be ready for inclement weather

lasts through the end of November, so it is important to not let your guard down even when the weather begins to cool. Prepare now for severe weather that may come your way by

Entergy Texas power grid: What is it and why should I care? /blog/entergy-texas-power-grid-what-it-why-should-i-care Tue, 27 Feb 2024 01:07:00 +0000 /entergy-texas-power-grid-what-it-why-should-i-care Our everyday lives rely heavily on electricity, but have you ever wondered where that power comes from? It all starts with the power grid.

Whats a power grid?

A power grid, also referred to as an electrical grid, is a network of generation, transmission and distribution systems that help deliver electricity to homes and businesses. The United States power grid is separated into three regions: the Eastern, Western, and Texas Interconnections. Within each of these three regions, there are interconnected local electricity grids.

Which grid helps power the Entergy Texas service area?

While most Texans are connected to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) power grid, Entergy Texas, along with a few other utilities in Southeast Texas, operates in the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (or MISO) power grid. 泭MISO is a regional transmission organization that helps provide reliable, cost-effective delivery of electricity to 15 U.S. states and one Canadian province. 泭MISO manages the flow of power between and among local grids across this vast region and moves energy around based on needthey liken it to the role of air traffic controllers. Entergy Texas works alongside MISO to maintain a careful balance of electricity demand with available supply from resources located throughout Southeast Texas and beyond. Both MISO and Entergy Texas play important roles in ensuring that the right amount of electricity is generated and transmitted, and that reliability is maintained. 泭

What Texas counties are connected to the MISO power grid?

In partnership with MISO, Entergy Texas helps provide reliable, affordable, and sustainable power to 27 counties in the southeastern part of Texas. Those counties are:

How does being connected to the MISO grid benefit customers?
Entergy Texas customers have saved more than $475 million on electric bills since the company joined MISO in 2013. Because MISO directs the dispatch of a pool of generation to serve the needs of all customers in its footprint, the dispatch is more efficient, resulting in a lower delivered cost of energy and long-term benefits for customers.

Heres how to stay warm while managing your energy usage /blog/here-s-how-stay-warm-while-managing-your-energy-usage Fri, 19 Jan 2024 19:30:00 +0000 /here-s-how-stay-warm-while-managing-your-energy-usage Frigid temperatures continue to move through parts of our service area, kicking heaters and energy consumption into high gear. Fortunately, Entergy Texas customers can stay warm while managing energy usage and costs by making their homes more energy efficient.

Heating costs can account for more than 50% of a customers monthly energy usage. Instead of cranking up the thermostat when the temperatures drop, Entergy Texas suggests the following free or low-cost steps to remain comfortable and save energy and money on utility bills:

  • Seal air leaks: Use caulk or weatherstripping around doors, windows and any location where there may be a path between the inside and outside.
  • Adjust the thermostat: Set the thermostat to 68 degrees during winter months, and dress in layers to stay warm. Each degree above 68 can increase your energy bill by about 3 percent.
  • Conserve hot water: Set your hot water heaters thermostat to 120 degrees, or the medium setting. Wrap electric water heaters with water heater blankets, which can be found at home improvement stores.
  • Keep doors and windows closed: Constant traffic will let out warm air, forcing your heater to work harder to keep the room at a set temperature.
  • Ensure fans are turning the right way: Fans should be run at a low speed clockwise during the winter to prevent the cold air from blowing down on you.
  • Replace air filters: Dirty filters make your heating system work harder. Replace them according to the manufacturers instructions.
  • Use sunlight to your advantage: During the day, open your curtains and blinds to let in the warm sunlight. Close them at night to reduce heat loss.

Entergy Texas also offers free comprehensive residential energy audits and rebates to help reduce the upfront cost of installing energy-efficient equipment. Visit entergy.com/energyefficiency for more information.
