Sempra Infrastructure and Entergy Texas to Advance Renewable ϳԹ and Supply Resiliency /news/sempra-infrastructure-entergy-texas-advance-renewable-energy-supply-resiliency Tue, 26 Jul 2022 23:00:00 +0000 /blog-post/sempra-infrastructure-entergy-texas-advance-renewable-energy-supply-resiliency/ Companies sign MOU for cooperation on the development of renewable energy resources to serve Sempra Infrastructure facilities

HOUSTON – Sempra Infrastructure, a subsidiary of (NYSE: SRE) (BMV: SRE), and today announced they have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to develop options designed to accelerate the deployment of new renewable energy generation resources and to increase the resiliency of power supply in Entergy Texas’s Southeast Texas service area, where Sempra Infrastructure’s facilities are under development.

“We look forward to working collaboratively with Entergy Texas to achieve both of our companies’ sustainability goals,” said Martin Hupka, president of LNG and Net Zero Solutions for Sempra Infrastructure. “Sempra Infrastructure has greenhouse gas reduction goals for our facilities through the utilization of low-carbon technologies, including electrification of key processes, carbon dioxide sequestration and the use of cost-effective renewable energy, and we are excited about the opportunity to jointly develop a renewable electricity plan that could provide an efficient, resilient and economic path to achieve our goals.”

The referenced MOU is non-binding and sets forth a framework for Entergy Texas and Sempra Infrastructure to collaborate on developing a renewable electricity plan, including an implementation schedule for renewable energy procurement that would supply Sempra Infrastructure affiliated facilities in the state, subject to approval of the Public Utility Commission of Texas.

Sempra Infrastructure is developing the Port Arthur LNG project in Jefferson County, Texas. Phase 1 of the Port Arthur LNG project is permitted and expected to include two natural gas liquefaction trains and LNG storage tanks, as well as associated facilities capable of producing, under optimal conditions, up to approximately 13.5 Mtpa of LNG. A similarly sized Phase 2 project is also under active marketing and development.

Additionally, Sempra Infrastructure is developing the proposed Port Arthur Pipeline Louisiana Connector, which would transport and provide natural gas to the proposed Port Arthur LNG project and exploring additional opportunities to co-locate low carbon hydrogen production and storage at or near its other facilities.

“We look forward to partnering with Sempra Infrastructure to help reduce their emissions through clean electrification and integration of renewable energy into their operations,” said Eliecer “Eli” Viamontes, president and CEO of Entergy Texas. “We seek to be a strategic partner with our customers and communities to help meet their sustainability goals while increasing the reliability and resiliency of our system.”

Entergy Texas plans to invest over $2.5 billion by the end of 2024 to build a cleaner, more resilient and sustainable energy future for Southeast Texas. Last year, Entergy Texas filed a request for approval of the Orange County Advanced Power Station, a 1,215-megawatt, dual-fuel combined cycle power facility that will have the capability to use a combination of natural gas and hydrogen. Electric generation using hydrogen as the fuel source produces zero carbon emissions.

Entergy Texas also has entered into a twenty-year power purchase agreement with Umbriel Solar for 150 megawatts of solar. The facility will be in Polk County and is expected to be operational beginning in 2024. Entergy Texas is evaluating additional solar resources that would provide economical, clean energy for customers, with plansto reach over 500 megawatts by 2025 and more by 2030. These resources will increase the diversity of Entergy Texas’ power generation portfolio.

This is the second MOU Sempra Infrastructure has signed with energy providers in North America’s Gulf Coast to advance the integration of renewable energy into its projects. Earlier this year, the company signed an MOU with Entergy Louisiana to collaborate on developing additional options for renewable energy procurement for Sempra Infrastructure affiliated facilities in Louisiana.

The development of Sempra Infrastructure’s projects in Texas and Louisiana is subject to a number of risks and uncertainties, including reaching definitive customer, partnership, construction and other agreements, securing all necessary permits, obtaining financing and incentives, and reaching a final investment decision.

Entergy Texas is working to make your power bill one less thing to worry about /stormcenter/entergy-texas-working-make-your-power-bill-one-less-thing-worry-about-1149448724 Fri, 27 May 2022 04:58:00 +0000 /entergy-texas-working-make-your-power-bill-one-less-thing-worry-about-1149448724 Like most things these days, the costs related to generating and delivering power have increased recently. A majority of the energy produced by Entergy Texas comes from natural gas, which has doubled in cost over the last year. Since our natural gas purchases are passed through at cost to customers (with no profit to the company), customer bills have gone up. While our residential rates are still below the national average, Entergy Texas is taking real action to reduce or minimize inflationary production cost impacts on our customers’ electricity bills. Here are a few steps we have taken to keep bills more affordable.

Transitioning to more efficient natural gas plants

Entergy Texas is transitioning from older, less efficient natural gas plants to newer, more modern and efficient generation – helping to keep the costs for our customers lower. Last year, the state-of-the-art , providing 993 megawatts of clean, affordable and efficient energy and powering over 184,000 homes. In addition, the company filed a request for approval for the Orange County Advanced Power Station, a 1,215-megawatt, dual-fuel combined cycle power facility capable of co-firing natural gas and hydrogen. This plant will be capable of powering over 230,000 homes. These newer plants are 30-40% more efficient than older, aging generation, which directly translates to fuel savings for customers.

Investing in solar power

The company has entered into a twenty-year power purchase agreement with Umbriel Solar for 150 megawatts of solar. The facility will be in Polk County and will be operational beginning in 2024. And we’re not stopping there. Entergy Texas is evaluating additional solar resources that will provide economical, clean energy for our customers with plans to reach over 500 megawatts by 2025 and even more by 2030. The addition of these solar resources will increase the diversity of our power generation portfolio, and the construction of these solar plants will benefit Southeast Texas communities by creating new jobs.

Ramping up our economic development efforts

Recruiting new businesses to our communities creates new jobs and helps keep electricity rates more affordable for existing customers by spreading the costs associated with providing that power across a larger customer base. We are ramping up our efforts in this area, and, in the last two years alone, we’ve helped recruit 33 new and expanded projects in Southeast Texas, which have created more than 2,663 new jobs for our region.

For customers looking to lower emissions and reduce the pain at the pump by making the switch to an electric vehicle, Entergy’s eTech program offers customers an incentive for purchasing electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Learn more at .

Giving customers new tools to save

Thanks to our new advanced meters, you now have access to more detailed energy usage information to take control of your bills. You can log in to your MyEntergy account and view how much electricity you’ve used daily, shown in 15-minute increments for residential customers, rather than waiting until the end of the month to view your energy usage. Entergy Texas energizes new substation in Huntsville /news/entergy-texas-energizes-new-substation-in-huntsville Wed, 04 May 2022 06:08:00 +0000 /blog-post/entergy-texas-energizes-new-substation-in-huntsville/ New substation increases capacity and improves service reliability

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Entergy Texas, Inc. recently completed a substation that is part of a $43.5 million investment in the Huntsville distribution network, improving the reliability and resiliency of the local grid. Located off Veterans Memorial Parkway, the new Veteran Substation supports the current and future load growth from residential, commercial and industrial customers in the area.

“We’re proactively investing in our infrastructure to keep power flowing to homes and businesses and deliver reliable service,” said Todd Gallagher, senior manager of transmission grid for Entergy Texas. “The new Veteran Substation is another example of our commitment to our customers. This substation will strengthen the system and meet the demands of our growing Huntsville community.”

Crews have been working since July of 2021 to construct the new substation located roughly three miles from downtown Huntsville. The new facility includes two large power transformers that allow energy to be brought in via high voltage lines from area generators and deliver it through eight new distribution feeders into various points in the Huntsville area. Work is ongoing to construct these new feeders, and the company plans to have them completed by the end of the year. With an additional 230kV transmission source added to the distribution system, the Veteran Substation will help provide reliable power and support economic growth by increasing capacity and reducing the stress on the existing Goree Substation.

Maintaining and improving the electric system is an ongoing process. Entergy Texas’ reliability experts routinely inspect and evaluate components of our system and use data, including local economic growth, to make strategic decisions around the building, enhancing or replacing of equipment.

The Veteran Substation is just one of the many reliability projects and upgrades going on across the Entergy Texas service area. The company plans to invest more than $2.4 billion over the next three years to create a more reliable and resilient system. Last year, Entergy Texas filed a request for approval of the Orange County Advanced Power Station, a 1,215-megawatt, dual-fuel combined cycle power facility. The addition of this facility will provide a new source of reliable, low-cost and clean energy for customers now and in the future. The company has also entered into a twenty-year power purchase agreement to begin in 2023 for the 150 MW Umbriel Solar resource located in Polk County and made selections from its 2021 request for proposals for at least 400 megawatts of solar resources to provide additional clean energy to meet customer needs by 2025.
