THE WOODLANDS, Texas – As summer temperatures drive up electricity use, Entergy Texas is partnering with local nonprofits to provide $100,000 in emergency bill assistance to qualified older adults and individuals with disabilities through its The Power to Care program.

Funded by donations from Entergy employees, customers and shareholders, The Power to Care program is administered by local partner agencies and provides direct financial assistance to customers age 60 and older, as well as individuals with disabilities, who are facing hardship and difficult choices between essentials like food, medicine and electricity.

This year, we expanded the year-round funding that is available through our existing partnerships to four additional nonprofits to address the growing need.

The assistance has been distributed to the following agencies to expand the program’s reach:

  • Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas – $50,000
  • Interfaith of The Woodlands – $20,000
  • United Way of the Brazos Valley – $20,000
  • Meals on Wheels Montgomery County – $10,000

Each organization will use the funds to provide emergency bill payment assistance to eligible elderly adults and disabled customers in their regions.

The nonprofits say the need comes at a critical time:

“This is one of the largest single donations we’ve received this summer specifically for utility assistance, and it will make an immediate impact,†said Carolyn Fernandez, CEO of Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas. “With these funds, we can help ensure that seniors and individuals with disabilities in our region stay safe and cool during dangerous heat.â€

“Every day, we serve seniors and disabled individuals struggling financially to meet basic needs due to crisis,†said Missy Herndon, President and CEO, Interfaith of The Woodlands. “Thanks to the generosity of Entergy’s Power to Care program, these individuals will receive assistance to help pay their utility bills, literally keeping the lights on and homes cool during the most challenging time of the year.â€

“When temperatures climb and costs rise, so does the stress for those on fixed incomes. Together with Entergy, we’re stepping in to ease that burden, restore peace of mind, and remind our neighbors that their community cares. We are deeply grateful for Entergy’s commitment to ensuring that no one is left to weather the summer heat alone,†said Lizett Hawkins, President and CEO of United Way of the Brazos County

“This generous gift from Entergy’s Power to Care program comes at a critical time. For so many of our homebound seniors, the summer heat isn’t just uncomfortable—it’s dangerous,†said Carrie Watkins, President and CEO, Meals on Wheels of Montgomery County. “Entergy’s partnership is more than financial support—it’s a powerful reminder to our seniors that their community cares about their safety, dignity, and well-being.â€
